I was talking to a really stupid evo (for those of you who don't know, evos believe in evolution and science and hate G-d) and I said to him: "Why have faith in science? It's always changing. The unerrant Word of G-D is where you should place your faith"

Well, the jerk said "The difference between science and religion is that science has ways to find out if it's wrong. That's why it changes from time to time - scientists find out that they'd been wrong all along. That only improves science and makes it more trustworthy, not less". You know, the usual evo yatter yatter. But then he said:

"In religion, you have no way of finding out if you're wrong. If you can never find out if you're wrong, how can you know that you're right?"

I must admit, I didn't know what to say to that. What should I have told the jerk?

Your friend is right. Science is not a body of beliefs, like faith is. It is a process for discovering what is truth, for testing beliefs and discarding ones that don't hold up to the evidence. Science changes as our understanding of the world improves.

Faith changes too. Do you think you're faith is all that similar to the faith of people three thousand years ago? It isn't. Even over the past few hundred years, people understanding of God has evolved, and it will continue to do so.

The nail in the coffin for the "just knowing" that is faith, is that different people have different faiths. They're not all the same, and in many ways they are at odds. That means that even if one faith was correct, most of the people in the world "just know" the "wrong" faith, and there is no way to determine who is right, because by definition, faith is not amenable to any verification. Most of the people of the world disagree with you, and they are just as confident in their beliefs as you are in yours.

Well, the Bible says, 'The fools deny God's existence'. How true. If you take the time to ponder on God's creation, there's nothing that God left to chance. Creation is so beautiful, so perfect ... why even a blade of grass is a wonder. There was a lot of planning done ... even to create a dandelion. Take a good look at the least-sought-after flower. The biggest challenge evolutionists face is to explain their own assertion that matter comes from matter. Then how do they explain the universe? How do they explain the planets, the sun, intelligently placed in the center of the universe and at the precise distance so not to burn us, but to warm us, to make plants, vegetables, flowers etc. to grow for food to sustain the inhabitants of the earth. How do they explain the incaptivating beauty of the flowers, their fragrance, the great oceans etc. etc. etc.

To borrow a famous saying, 'frankly, my dear', I believe that if a person has just a little intelligence, it's impossible for that person to deny God's existence. It's the proud and 'mighty' scientists who, because they cannot accept that a Being with an intelligence MUCH higher then theirs must have created the universe (because they sure can't do that) who 'believe' in evolution. Their extreme pride which causes them to want control everything blinds their mind so the 'mighty' are transformed to stupid idiots. There's no better description.

That has got to be the most ridiculous arguement I've never heard, LOL :)
Every point he argued, only proved "YOUR" point.
1) science NEEDS a way to expose itself as being wrong, because it is imperfect,"people",that God made, ...are...scientists ! God is not a scientist.
2)science changes from time to time, because, people are "wrong" from time to time,...from the "beginning" of time.
3) Science does not improve,or become more trustworthy over time;science, IS,what it always WAS,The only inconsistencies in science has been the misunderstanding of science,...by man.
"...If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"..."In Christianity, there is no way of finding out if you're wrong,"...this is the only thing your friend said that did actually make good sense!
If there's no way to prove something to be wrong, then doesn't it stand to reason, then, that it MUST be right??? Why does anyone "just have" to find a way to prove something wrong,so badly, that they have to lie and deceive,to do so?
The old testament of the bible relates stories and prophecies, that came to pass ,hundreds of years later,in the new testament. The whole Bible, from the front cover,to the back cover, is a self contained, cross examination of itself, and more importantly,God's Holy Word.
Scientists, themselves have, repeatedly, found errors "they" have made, and then they try to find error in God. That's not going to happen, because God IS Perfect.
Just because they don't like it, doesn't make it any less TRUTH!
Satan works thru many avenues and guises to keep God's word from us,particularly thru scientists;they're so deceived, they're to be pitied and prayed for.
It's,as usual,Satan's same old lies, with a "new and improved "name!"
God said it,...I believe it,...That settles it !!! "
Praise Adonai !!!

And one more thing...Maybe "Missing Link," above me,can tell us all where we can go see the actual skeleton of the evoluted creature that went through the changes of starting out as a monkey, and evolved into a man. Is it at the Smithsonian,...or just in his own under developed mind????

Science can never disprove the existence of God. Science can never prove where mankind developed his on sense of self awareness and emotion, our own individual unique thought processes, why we have a conscience, why do we feel guilt etc. All this is part of what we are. but what inspired it in us from the begining of our existence ? Personally i believe this is could only be inspired by a higher power. In my opinion God

It's really quite bizarre to hear someone behaving like such a jerk calling someone else a jerk.

Science bases it's theories on factual evidence. When new evidence is found that challenges old theories, science accepts that the truth is more important than arrogant sticking to old dogmas.

Sorry if my reference to being a jerk offends, but you shouldn't be in such haste to throw stones.

Mountains of evidence have been gathered to support evolution.

None has been found to support the rigid dogmas of the bible.

How about you drop the arrogant attitude that makes YOU appear like a jerk and accept that maybe YOU are wrong.

Science simply tells us how the Gods did it. And the "Word of God" doesn't change because it was written 2000 years ago and it HAD changed because people have taken out chapters (Song of Soloman) and mistranslated by scholars who hadn't learned all thier is to learn about languages. So congratulations, you were both right.

Firstly, he is not a jerk......and he answered you in a respectful way. Science and religion are different disciplines in the search of ultimate wisdom, that is, to know more of the mind of God and the reason of existence. For religion, faith IS THE PROOF, for science they have faith in proof. Don't forget Thomas, the Apostle.......he asked Jesus for proof....hence, doubting Thomas. And don't forget Job, who, in his pain, material and physical, asked God many many questions. It is not a sin to ask for knowledge or proof of knowlege. There are no stupid questions, questions are research tools to find the light. You should have replied "Thanks for your answer, I shall dwell on it ...Peace."

If you have to ask other people, it shows that you don't even know why you believe what you believe.

I think you should look within yourself and think up your own answer instead of relying on others. If you still can't think of any reason, then maybe that "jerk" was right.

You were right on. "Faith" is the key word. "For we walk by faith, not by sight". (II Corinthians 5:7). "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1). It's easy to believe in things we can see, but it's by faith that we believe in God, whom we can't see.

Since science changes from time to time, then it will change somewhere in the near future, right?????
Doesn’t this mean that now science is wrong and forever will be wrong????
