I went to the ER last night b/c I had a lot of blood in my urine and it hurt like hell so they tested my urine which was red by the way and came back with a prescription for a bladder infection. I took the medicine immediately however I was wondering how soon I can expect this to start working b/c I am still peeing blood and in a lot of pain...

If it is an infection it will take a few days to start clearing up, be sure to take all of the anitbiotic as instructed by the Dr.

You should expect some improvement in about 3 days. You can take some over the counter pain reliever like paracetamol or ibuprofen. This can be taken regularly until the antibiotics which they gave you can get a chance to kick in. It is important to take the medicine for the full 7 days so that you will not get a recurrence of the symptoms

it's probably going to take three days before the medicine can bring down the infection. You will probably start feeling relief after that point. Start drinking large glasses of cranberry juice immediately, as this will help fight the infection. Drink at least 8oz. three times daily.

Place a hot water bottle on your abdomen for twenty minutes at a time. This will relax the muscles and help reduce some of the pain.

You need to follow up with an urologist ASAP. Tests such as an ultra sound should
have been done. Once blood is visible to the naked eye things are serious. If it is not tended to correctly you will develop a kidney infection. You may or may not see results with the meds they gave you. But that is still playing with fire - see a urologist !

i had the same problem a while back but with out the pain - just wait till u finish ur antibiotics
