A man and a woman go out on a first date. While eating dinner at an expensive restaurant, the woman insults the man, and the man decides to end the date before dessert. He stands up and places cash on the table equivalent to the value of the food he ordered for himself, plus a generous tip. The woman demands that he pay for her as well. The police arrive to settle the matter. What happens next? Who is legally required to pay?

Well if he offers to buy her dinner in exchange for her company and she accepts, then one could argue that they have a verbal contract with the consideration being that he pays the dinner bill. Unless the "contract" clearly dictates appropriate behavoir on her part, by not paying for her, he has broken the terms of the contract.

However, as patrons of the resturant, the couple together has entered into a contract with the resturant that there will be money exchanged for food. In that case both are equally responsible for making sure the bill is paid.

Guess what, your a complete jerk. Even if she was the daughter of satin and fire came out of mouth and ruined your shirt. You invited her there. The assumption your paying. You asked her out. A judge will get a good laugh, then return with a verdict. Assumed, implied, contract. You invited, and took this woman out to dinner and now you will pay your court cost, her court cost, for her dinner, for humiliation and distress, any cost for her to get home, and maybe even pain and mental agoney. Dude, you should give up dating. It is a very VERY expensive hobby.....for you.

It's more of a maturity issue than a legal issue. Obviously you chose the latter. You are both legally responsible to the restauranteur to see the bill gets paid. If you feel you have been "wronged" by this woman ... sue her. But be prepared to look stupid ... again.

If the man invited the woman to have dinner with him, he is obligated to pay for the meal.

I'm not an attorney, so that is just my opinion.

Just pay for her meal and be done with it. It's his fault for taking her to a fancy-schmansy restaurant on a first date in the first place.
