I have a sister who is 16 years younger than I am.We never lived in the same place and recently have moved in the same area. Its been great getting to know her but she is constantly letting me know that I am getting older, even to the point of having 2 separate bachlorette partys. One to have fun and one to include the "older women". Even my daughter has'nt made me feel this way. Would you ingnore it or confront her? Our parents have both passed on so as far as family I am it for her.

Thanks for all the great answers. I was afraid with all the "younger" people on this site I would get blasted and told to act my age. You made my day!!!!!

It's probably a nervous thing. She may be trying to get an "inside joke" going without realizing its hurting your feelings. I would probably make a smart alec comment to her and see how it goes, it sounds like her backwards way of trying to connect.

Talking about it would certainly do it for this one. Not a formal conversation anyways. Just a very casual intro like "i noticed you talk about my age alot... why do you think I'm that old" That question asked during a very light and laidback conversation could set things rolling. (1) The question would get her unawares so she wouldnt be so defensive, and (2) The light hearted conversation could make her talk more openly.
I'm sure she knows you're all she's got. you two just need to connect on a new level.....let all the years between you guys melt away...even if it involves doing more fun things with her. She'll realize that you're not as 'old fashioned' as she thinks you are. Good luck!

You should let your sister know how you feel. I am sure she doesn't realize that this is hurting you so. She is however 16 years younger than you, and doesn't feel the same as you do on age at this time of her life. I believe honesty in this situation would be the best solution.

Confront her tell her it is disrespectful. It's not like your 30 years older. Also remind her that some day she will be your age.

Confront her. She isn't going to know it's bothering you unless you tell her. Just let her know enough is enough and then you guys can move on.

its ok . she is 16 yrs younger, u might represent a mother in her eyes. even though u dont like it. no harm from that. especially when she has no parents now. u can be in stead of them..

i'd talk to her about it.u have nothing to lose and all to gain.
if i was in ur shoes that would annoy me too,as no one wants to be treated old.i'ts actually rude.but address it in an adult manner n just talk it through.
