Have you told your dad that you wanted to go to the car show? Do you "talk cars" with him? If he does not have a clue that you like cars, then you need to change that.

It does not sound like you are "neglected because you are a girl." It sounds like he just does not know that you might want to go with him.

Get involved more, learn more, talk more and make sure your pops isn't leaving without you.

Don't get down about it. Take the initiative. Find out what you like about cars, what your favorite car is and all the details about it. Become an expert and know its history and what years are the worst and best. Buy books or magazines. It might take him some time to see it, but drag him to your car at the next car show when you do know that it's in the area. Some car shows are just meant for one type of car. Read up on it and go, even if your pops doesn't.

If you miss the chance today, go with him the next time around.

Have fun!

i come from a racing family. i kind of know where you're coming from. my dad was old school and thought that girls shouldn't or couldn't be into cars. my brothers were always involved but i was never even asked to go to the races.lot's of hurt feelings came out of that. i had to ask or tell him that i wanted to be included. i helped all the time, with anything i could. everything from loading the trailer, pushing up the car, hauling gas, jacks and tools and he still didn't get it.i even helped with the motor when he'd let me. it took him a long time to relize that i did know a few things just from watching and listening and i was truly interested. i had to try harder just b/c i was a girl. that's a fact.
tell your dad that you want to go with. hang out in the garage with him. offer to help and ask him to teach. he just might figure it out. good luck.
