There are two kinds of antigens- A and B. There could also be no antigen (O)
Humans have two sets of chromosomes and hence genes for everything. We get one set from our mother and one from our father.
Thus we have two genes for the blood group antigen each, one from the mother and one from the father.
If both genes are for blood group A or if one is for blood group A and the other is for no antigen (O) then we have blood group A (Written as AA or AO)
If both genes are for blood group B or one for B and one for no antigen (O) then the blood group is B (written as BB or BO)
If there is one gene for A and the other for B we have group AB
If both genes are for no antigen (O) then we have blood group O.
Obviously the blood groups depends on the parents blood group but we can have a large number of combinations.
1. Parents are A (AA or AO) and B (BB or BO). The kids could be A (AO), B (OB), AB or O (OO).
2. If the parents are A (AA or AO) and O (OO). The kids could be A (AO) or O(OO) but cannot be B or AB.
3. If the parents are AB and A (AA or AO). The kids could be A (AA or AO), B (BO), or AB (BA) but cannot be O.
4. If the parents are AB and O. The kids can only be A (AO) or B (BO).
and so on and so forth.

LOL. I bet you failed the segment of health class or biology class that went over blood types. at least one of your father's parents has blood type B. People w/ blood type B either have 2 B alleles or 1 B allele and 1 O allele. Since your father has blood type O and his sisters all have blood type B we know that this parent is of the BO variety. O alleles are recessive. in order to have blood type O, you must have 2 O alleles. You get one from each parent. So his other parent is either blood type O like him (OO) or blood type B (BO) or even blood type A (AO) your blood type is determined when the sperm meets the egg and has nothing to do with anything you experience in your environment after you are born. and type O is not a rare blood type, it's very common. depending on what part of the world you live in will determine how common it is. but basically in the US 46% of the population is blood type O and 46% is not rare. Now if you want to break it down between positives and negatives then of that 46% only 6% are negative and then that type is rare. O neg is also the most desirable in the blood banks because everyone can use it.

Your blood type is directly related to your parents blood type. It is all related to genetics. The different types of blood you can have are as follows: OO, AO, BO, AA, BB, AB. I will set the problem up easy so it can be understood. Lets say that your mom has an OO blood type. And your father has an AO blood type. There is a 1/2 chance that you will have an OO blood type and a 1/2 chance you will have an AO blood type.

A persons blood type is NOT related to the parents. When a child is in the womb they have their own blood supply and blood type. Not sure how it is decided or "made"

Not unnecessary. DNA makes blood types. It sounds stupid, doesn't it? But your DNA may differ from ur brother's one in some point so your blood type may be differ, coresspondinly.
