Remember now- He's such a miserable prick. He doesn't give people a "choice" in the matter. All you're ever going to read in this place is a bunch of comments by dummies who exercise that God-given choice the wrong way, and then come in here and argue with the theists about how bad and merciless God is.
The stupidity and contradictions are breath-taking.

I have noticed that a lot of people come up with the "fear" problem in YA. This is not based in reality.
You asked why God did not provide a path for all to return. He did! Jesus Christ died for ALL who would believe in Him with their whole heart. The narrow path is the same for everyone.
The narrow path is following Christ and is called narrow because most will choose the broad path.
People who love their opinion more than truth will continue to ignore the Bible and the path God has ordained for their salvation. They walk the broad path of destruction and eternal
damnation by their rejection of truth. This eliminates any and all excuses for those who would like to blame God.
If there is fear present, it is right to fear because there is no mercy from God on the other side of the grave for those who refuse to repent and accept the narrow way through Jesus Christ.

God has given us the choice to choose Him but knows many will not. So he knows the gate to heaven will be narrow. It's very plain.
And if it takes fear to get you to recognize God at His word and live by His rules then so be it.
But I see God as a loving and forgiving God with a lot of patience but he can get mad when you keep turning him away and blaspheming.

We have a choice to pursue that which we think will make us happy (satisfy our sensual desires, pursue comfort and money) or to be selfless and help each other. If God's words appear fearful, it's because these are warnings that are meant to get your attention and to guide people toward God.

Think. If that be the case, then why did Jesus die such a horrific death for you and me? God did make just one path for mankind to take, His son Jesus. The verse you are quoting from is Jesus teaching us not to expect the majority to follow Him on the road that leads to life. Few there will be who will truly deny themselves and seek His face alone as they persevere in the faith until the end.

Perhaps so that you could use your free will to make a decision for righteousness or unrighteousness. God wants the righteous freely. He does not want a robot, or a scared rabbit. Your heart has more to play in this than you realize.

I guess you've never had to make a choice before. Or perhaps never given a person a choice either. God is giving us a choice. THIS or that. LIFE or death. It's your choice now. What will you do?

It's just another superstitious story to try to keep people in line. However, you can gleen some wisdom from it if you don't take it too literally. It's not like there are any real gods around peeking in on you all the time.
However, it is true that your character is hard to maintain. Your character is how you present yourself to those around you. It determines how people react to you. If you tend to be trustful, people will tend to trust you more. However, it doesn't take much to sway public opinion. If you misuse someone's trust, you'll find it difficult to re-establish.
If you use your brain and actually think about why something is right or wrong, you'll do much better than if you rely on old myths. But you can learn from many sources.

It is all about free will.
God gave us free will so we would be able to love him and love each other. can you really call it "love" if you have no choice but to put another person's wishes and desires ahead of yours?
