Hi Helen

As has already been said - it really does depend on what file format your digi recorder creates so I will try and talk in general terms.

First up - why do you want them on a CD? Is it for your own use or to share with friends. If it is for your own use then there shouldn't be too much of a problem as you know that your computer will play them but if it is to share with friends then the file type is critical as they will need to be able to play it and if Nero doesn't recognise it then it is unlikely that your friends computer will.

When you first install a digi recorder onto your computer it usually installs its own player and maybe even installs a codec so that other players (like WMP) can also play the files.

Digi recorders usually offer a variety of file formats for recording and will often provide a facility to convert that file format to another more common one if required. To give you an example. The Olympus Digi recorder will record in two different formats WMA (which is pretty universally recognised) and dss which is Olympus own native (and very compressed) format. The advantage of the dss format is that it takes up much less space on the recorder. However there is an option (that can be set in DSS Player - the software that is installed when you set up your Olympus recorder) to convert those dss files to wav files - this is another universally recognised format.

So have a look at the options on your recorder to see what formats you can record in and if there is nothing there then have a look on the software that installed with your player and see if you can change formats there.

On a final point Nero and Windows XP CD recording system don't much care what file types you are trying to burn to CD if you use them in their bog standard interface. If you use the Nero start smart and then start clicking into the audio options I can see how you might end with difficulties. Try instead to open Nero Burning ROM - it will be somewhere under Nero in Programmes and follow the process to burn the CD there - ask again if you get stuck

Hope that helps

This is an unusual file format, so unless you have a good reason to keep them that way it might be better to record and burn them as MP3. All you need is a microphone and Audacity, plus the MP3 codec.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ -Audacity music tool.
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?lame_enc - the MP3 codec

Its very easy to use. If you use an unusual file format you may not be able to play your sound files on other devices.
Windows Media Player needs a small piece of software - the 'codec' - to allow it to recognise the file. You'd have to google for a free download site for it; first try the manufacturers website for the device or software you're using.

Since you don't specify what file types are created when you download them to your PC, you should search for a burner utility that will recognize those file types. Try looking through the programs / utilities at C-NET's download area (www.download.com). I've gotten a few good programs from there in the past. But - make sure you look at the program descriptions & specs to make sure it will recognize those files you download. Nero doesn't recognize many of them. Good luck.

If you can play them on the computer, all you need to do is connect the ear phone socket on the computer to the microphone socket of the digital recorder and play from your computer.
The sound will not come out of the computer speakers, but you can listen by connecting earphones to the voice recorder.
I made the connections using a set of cables and adapters which allowed me to make various connections without having to buy all the different cables, I got my set from Argos but can't find it in current catalogue.
