When the kittens are born, the momma cat lickes their butts to stimulate them, and help them go. They do this until about the age of 4 weeks (even after they start to go on their own). Its great that the kitten was going on his own... but please remember he cant do everything on his own yet. Take a warm moist (not soaking wet) towel, hold him over some newspaper and rub his little bottom until he poops (being gentle and adding water if you need, dont rub his bottom raw). If you do it for more than a min. and a half and nothing comes out... then set him down and try again in about an hour. I used to work for a vets office, and abandoned kittens were my specialty. If the poop is a little softer than what he has been doing, it should be ok since you are the one trying to get him to go. If it does not firm up in a day or two call your vet. If your kitten does not poop in 24-48 hours with you stimulateing him make sure to call your vet as he may have a blockage somewhere. Also if you change his food (you may be doing KMR or another kitten replacement milk that you will need to thicken up and eventually add to caned food ) the color and smell may change. If its in about the same time that you changed his diet, the change of color, texture and smell are also normal. Since you are this kittens mom, also realize that after you feed him you need to rub your finger up and down between his shoulder blades to "burp" him. When they are on a mostly non solid food diet they can get air bubbles (even if eating on their own). If you need other tips on how to care for a kitten that is too young to be away from his mom... please feel free to email me and I will help you in any way I can. I will not be back onto the compuer until tuesday as I am going away for the holiday weekend tonight. Good luck with the new addition to the family, you are doing a wonderful thing.

mom cat is doing what she is meant to do. protecting the kittens sparkling and eliminating any heady scent of them from predators. The kittens would be eating yet she nevertheless is interior the mother mode and could proceed till she lose interest of nursing. whilst the kittens are 8 weeks old, you will get her spayed properly. The kittens would be rehomed at 8 weeks of age. do no longer permit her out as she would be able to alter into pregnant lower back precise away. mom cats continually look very skinny after giving beginning. she would be able to bulk up quickly. that's a sturdy theory to have an entire checkup accomplished on an identical time because of the fact the spaying. she would be able to then be caught up on vaccinations, an entire well-being checklist and spayed. you're a sturdy cat proprietor and take accountability as anybody could.
