I want to make my lawn have a strip look - one line light and the next dark.
Any ideas?

Mow in straight lines to the north and south. Then lower your mower blade one click and mow in straight lines to the east and west. Voila! checkerboard lawn pattern like Soldier's field or a nice golf course.

For just plain stripes. Make sure you mow in very straight lines. When you go in one direction your lines will look dark. As soon as you go in the opposite direction you get the light lines.

You must have a mower with a back roller to get this effect. Then you just go up and down without overlapping the previous cut and you will get the effect. The effect is bought about by the grass laying in one direction and the next cut is in the opposite direction thereby catching the light differently.

I am not sure if I understand your question, but I think you want the stripped effect that you see on baseball fields, right?

This requires very thick high quality grass, a very sharp blade and always reversing direction to get the striped effect.

Sorry if I have misunderstood.

We have neighbors with this effect.

I've seen this with some older guys. They mow alternate strips on different time schedules about a week apart.

you need a rotary mower with a roller at the back of it,then as you cut one way it flattens the grass in that direction, and when you double back on yourself it flattens it the other way creating your stripes?
