Becoming a parent...no. Being the parent of teenagers - YES!!

Funny you should throw that one out there. At times my husband and I ask ourselves the same question. Kiddos certainly are a test of patience and personal ability to maintain our sanity. They sure do know how to push our buttons when they want to. I don't think that being a parent makes a person insane, it's just a great test for us all to overcome those moments and situations that drive us to potentially head us down that road. We've found that keeping the kids active and not bored works wonders. Getting out of the house doing anything and spending time together is the best. That and trying to find humor in most situations and trying to keep a smile on our faces most of the time, but using reasonable discipline when needed of course. The kids will benefit from it and appreciate our efforts later in their lives. I once had a Philosophy professor that said that he thought that he knew the meaning of life until he had kids... then he realized that THEY were the meaning of life. I'd have to agree now that I have had my 2 beautiful children. Maintaining our sanity is a challenge, but definitely something that can and should be conquered.

I am only 14. The thought of being a parent and dedicating pretty much my entire life to the child seems pretty bewildering. I am undecided if i want to have children. If I do, I will have them after 30. I would like to enjoy life and see what it has to offer before i settle down and get married and have children. I want to learn about parenting, and make sure I can be the best father i can be, and fufill my capabilities. I feel that if i cannot be a good father, then I do not have a right in participating in the action of bringing another human being in the world. I also fear that the stress of raising a child would make it tempting to do stupid things. I will wait until i am in my 30's.

It doesn't make you insane but it sure feels like it sometimes. I could never believe how anybody could abuse a child or a baby. That was until I had a baby. When that baby cries nonstop for hours and you can't make it quit, you understand how someone could take that baby and choke it...or throw it against the wall. Of course, I never did any of those things but you understand better how someone could go insane for a moment. Kids do push you to your limit. But don't worry, they grow up.

Feels like insanity! What you are (or will be) experiencing is responsibility, unconditional love, quick decision making and this, combined with the noise level, lack of sleep, and constant chaos, does make you feel like you've lost it! Once upon a time, I was a really bright girl!! Now, at times, I am just shy of idiot. I'm not worried-it'll come back to me when they're gone.
