i think some of your answerer's did not look at the links you supplied. Interesting reading. But sadly, for those who predict global warming, there are those out there saying it is not happening. The question really is why do some people not believe that global warming is happening?

No relax the world is gonna be OK ,
climate change(Global warming) is just going to affect all that lives on the surface only the animals and the people will die.

but there are so many other possibilities

here is my collection of ends of the humanity

many predictions are for the years between 2012 and 2020
Nostradamus,the mayas ,Egyptians Jesus ,

and Terrance Mckennas time wave who put the magnetic output of the world into a computor projection that stopped at zero in 2012,this means the globe has stopped and it starts turning
the other way ,the resulting change of currents will turn the planet into a giant washing machine cleaning the surface

then there are the meteors storms (armageddon) ,the gulf of Mexico is the result of one that would have made life exstinct for a while ,this would result in an other ice age because globe gets covered in dust for a few years, blocking out the sun.

then there are more posible natural disasters
Volcanos are coming to life everywhere
the weather has giant storms like hurricanes ,tornados ,tidal waves ,earth quackes

a shift of the earth crust ,would change the position of the poles
under Anrarctica were found fosilized tropical plants indication the pole must have been in a different place then (the mainland atlantis is thought to be under it )

Apart from that , the biggest threat to any species of exstinction is ,when there are too little ,and when there are too many ,so overpopulation is also a threat

and the USA appears to be gunning for a global nuclear conflict .it is most likely that this will get us first ,looking at present politics

the planet will probably survive unless humanities bombs result it to be knocked out of its orbit

so many ends to choose from
if it wasnt so serious it would be rediculous

meanwhile enjoy life .and make the most of it at least we are all in the same boat

Climate change is happening, it would be very hard to deny this given the amount of evidence available.

Turning to your point about how long we have left to save the world - this is a very good question and one that can't be accurately answered.

We often refer to something called the 'tipping point', effectively the point of no return beyond which the damage caused to the Earth becomes irreparable.

Because we're in uncharted territory no-one can say just where the tipping point is. There are some scientists who put forward a good case arguing that we have already passed this point, others argue just as convincingly that it could be as much as 50 years away. The average, and the general feeling, is that it's about 20 to 30 years away.

We really don't know which is one of the reasons there's so much concern that we should act now in order to pull our planet back from the brink.

My own opinion is broadly in line with the consensus in that I beleive we have about 20 to 30 years before reaching the tipping point. Not long when you consider how little progress has been made in the last 20 to 30 years.

Of course not.

Even the global warming predictors have predictions of problems that are fifty years or so in the future. At that time things like the slow movement of the oceans inland would cause such things as the building of new docks that are a bit farther back... chaos!

As you may be able to tell, I really don't believe that man is responsible for the changes to the Earth's temperature. We are not a whole lot more than gnats on the Earth's surface.

The reason that we have heat at all and for that matter existence is our sun. The sun controls our temperature pretty much all on its own. Not to say that our eco-systems don't effect how much of the sun's heat gets through, but not to a great extent. Mars is currently having a temperature increase right in line with ours and I have trouble believing that we are causing that.

Now, as to your other answer before this... feel free to read what that link has to say, but remember that global warming has become something of a quasi-religion and they will try and scare the pants off of you to make you a believer. It is your choice which side to take in this debate, so look at both sides.

Hope this helps you.

there is more than five years left to save the world but we should start implementing sweeping change immediately to stop the rampant pollution and see if it will bring down the threat of global warming. obviously when you exploit all of the worlds resources, cut down millions of trees per day, kill habitats and ecosystems and buy large polluting cars not caring about the effects change to the climate and weather will happen. trees are a valuable resource soaking up much of the pollution we spew out everyday without them there is a rapid shift in pollution. I think every skeptic about global warming should visit websites and read articles about it. global warming is not just the warming of the world to which many uneducated people say hey the weather is fine. global warming is the rapid shift in climate and weather throughout the world, we can see this in the mild and for the most part snowless winter in new york, and record high temperatures, and also in the fact that many states in america have been experiencing abnormal weather and storms such as hurricanes, tornados and snowstorms in regions that are not used to such weather patterns. I dont know why its so hard for people to fathom that we arent acting responsibly on any front in america whether it is clean fuels, clean cars, green development or smart growth we are not doing the most we can to maximize resource use and efficiency and that is something the well educated society of today should strive for. i dont even care if people would like to discredit global warming although it is painfully clear it is occuring and occuring because of our exploitation of every natural resource in the world but at least care that we arent doing the best we can to be socially responsible citizens who strive to emit the lowest levels of pollution, conserve energy and grow their economy in a smart way, taking ecosystems and habitats into consideration when chopping down large swaths of trees for developments

Now I wouldn't say we have 5 years to save the world, but the climate is changing because I live in UK and usually its rainy and it hasn't rained that much. But I would say we have like 25 years to save the world.

NO!

Scientists who actually work in these fields flatly contradict Gore. Take his allegations that extreme weather (EW) events will increase in frequency and severity as the world warms and that this is already happening. Former professor of climatology at the University of Winnipeg Dr. Tim Ball notes, "The theories that Gore supports indicate the greatest warming will be in polar regions. Therefore, the temperature contrast with warmer regions -- the driver of extreme weather -- will lessen and, with it, storm potential will lessen."

should have started to save the world 50 years ago and as 4 global warming that's just something for the weather man to talk about phooey ice caps melting i live a 1000 miles from the ice caps and its below 0 here

yes global climate change is occuring, but saying we have only five years left to save the world is like telling a cancer patient he only has 6 months to live.
it just isn't practical to predict such outcomes, and leads to harsh criticism of the hypothesis.

I believe climate change is occuring but I think its egotistical to think that we can save the world in five years. The damage has been done already so how can you believe that it can be undone in five years when its been occurring at least for the past hundred years.
