Con is the name of an Important system folder
if you give the same name to any other Folder on your PC
Your comp will go haywire
Actually Con means Configuration
Go to Run and type con
See For Your Self

hey.. Firstly there are many other names you can use beside con to name a folder..and the reason why you cant name it as con is.. because there are certain files hidden in windows which they prohibit the user to operate n are necessary for the os to operate and many logical functions are performed with the hidden con folder which links sys 32 with every drive in the system. So if u create another folder named con , the system wont know through which con to operate .so microsoft havent given the privelage to the user to create the con folder..

The word "con" is a reserved word from the old DOS days which means Console. It is blocked from use in Windows as a folder name.

con is a reserved word

try in the Command prompt the following:

copy con abc.txt

and press enter
enter any text you want and press CTRL+Z to finish

that's why you can't name a file or a folder "con"

ok, now that u have come to know 'why'; let me tell u 'how' to name a folder 'con'.
To create folder of name 'con', first type 'alt255' this will create blank space, then write 'con' :)

hey man that's a flaw in windows os. an indian pointed this out and bill gates even cud not answer this.. i think this flaw must hav bin corected in a vista.. try naming that on a vista os and check if microsoft has had the brains to correct this flaw
