How do I decorate the walls of a room for a nursery with ugly wallpaper? We live in an apartment and the walls in our third bedroom have this ugly wallpaper on it, and we cannot change it nor put holes in the walls. I have seen rooms with material hung along the walls, but I'm not sure how to do it. What would I use to hold it up? I can put small holes along the edges where wall meets celing, but nothing too big. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also, any websites I could find enough material to purchase for the project? I'm wanting a gender neutral room. Thanks and God bless!

Have you approached the owner/landlord about either removing and painting or re papering it? They actually might not mind.

If you cannot do anything to change the walls try to reduce them to unimportant in the room.

Pick the most baby color out of the wall paper and put down a 5 x 7 rug in that color that will work with the wall paper.
Make the curtains in the baby accenting color to go with the rug and wall paper.

Make your baby things shine with the appropriate baby color of yellow, or green or blue or what ever will go with that wallpaper.

The baby and its furnishings will hide the wall paper. Most people will not even remember it.

Just remember the room only needs to look babyish for 2 to 3 years and then they are little people.

I had just redone the den in our first house with a red white and blue theme when I became pregnant with our daughter.
Guess what her color theme was?

Then I had just done the guest room in the next house with yellow plaid wall paper when our son was born and placed for adoption (very quickly) So he had a reasonably acceptable plaid paper.

You can make the room to fit the child better when they are a bit older and can appreciate it.

Happy Baby!

I think the best way is to soak the wallpaper with water on a paint roller or sponge, then wait a little and carefully pull it away from the wall. Then you can paint it any color you want or put up new wall paper.

I would aske the landlord if you can remove it. If you can't, then I would paint over it. My mother painted over wallpaper and you can't even tell, it looks like a regular wall painted.

Definately paint over it. I bet when you tell the landlords you want to decorate your new baby's room, they would be fine with it. Especially if you go for a neutral color such as tan or beige.
