It depends. I'd say usually on line is the best thing. But there are sometimes when a TA is good - when you are booking somewhere where you don't have much knowledge or experience, a TA can provide some knowledge that you might not have. For example, there are many low fare carriers that fly into less used airports. These might be very far away - and you might lose the value of the cheaper ticket in the hassle and time to really get where you want, or you might not know that there is a better way to do something (like flying in a particular direction on an open jaw.) If you get a special rate, like a student rate or youth rate or military rate, it can be good to use a TA. If you are trying to combine services, air, hotel, car, cruise, etc, then it can be alot of work and a TA can help. But for most of us, online is the way to go.

You do have a few options...you can book online directly with the airlines, on their own websites. The only downfall with this, is that you have to then go to the different sites, and compare flight itineraries and pricing.
You could go to travel agent websites to book...as they will give you different airlines, different itineraries and pricing. The downfall, they charge a service fee. Some are as high at $20 per ticket!
My site is $10.
You can also call a travel agent to book your air....most do charge a fee for this...typically $15 to $25 per ticket.
The reason for the fees, is that airlines no longer pay commissions and the agents need to make money.
The choice is yours...good luck.

First, travel agencies may have a cheaper ticket fare than the online one. (True) even with a $30 fee, it may be lower than you think. Online ticket are PUBLISHED fares, not the "discounted fare, as many people think.
Second, you are going to China. With some needed documents a travel agent would be able to guide you in this regards
If any problem occurs, you are on your own !
Get your ticket thru a reputable travel agency.

I book my tickets online and after you enter your credit card information, shut down your computer and restart it, so your information won't get hacked.
I find some great deals at this web site: iBtraveling.com so I won't have to pay the fee that travel agencies charge.
Wish you the best!

I recommend that you book online as airlines more often than not offer better deals when you book straight from their website.
