I've a company black tie event to attend in 2 weeks and have no idea what to wear.

I'm thinking of splurging on clothing that I can use again rather than leave it to rot in the wardrobe. Seeing I'm not a Dress person, I found a nice fancy black corset top at an evening wear shop. This will go well with my jeans for other occasions, so I am happy with it.

I think it is usually teamed with a knee-length or full-length skirt so
I'm afraid that a black corset, black slacks, and black peep-toes would not be suitable for a black-tie event.

What do you guys think?

There are lovely pants/sheer-panel outfits that transition to black-tie.

Essentially, slim black pants. Over the pants are sheer black panels (8-12" wide) making a 'skirt effect'. This gives the illusion of a dress (dancing, etc.) but provides the comfort and discretion of pants.

If you decide to wear 'just' slacks, be sure that they are of high quality fabric, the correct length, freshly pressed and lint-free. Really, a great outfit can be de-classed by being rumpled or fuzzy.

Only if the corset is something you will wear again. Sheer top, or lightweight silk jacket.

I love light weight black silk pants, so versitile, but jeans are acceptable in most circles.

Toss in a bit of colour for contrast, nice necklace or hair ribbon/pin, something to draw away from the black.

Someone suggested a sheer top for over the corset... That's how I'd go. With this being a company event, you want to be sexy without appearing "easy" to the people who count.
Slacks are absolutely fine!

Sounds like you have good taste.

I think the corset sounds more risque than the slacks. Maybe OK with a sheer or lacy blouse over it.

You need evening pants;there are such things as evening pant suits for women, much more appropriate than too casual slacks. The evening pant suit would work quite well with the corset.

I think the corset with nice slacks would be very classy!

i´d say yes.try to find a taffeta skirt -black- and sort of floaty, not a tube or short, but knee lenght, that is dressy and not too expensive.
try strappy sandals
good luck and have fun
