Glad your cat is recovering. Take your vet's advice. (I actually know of two people walking around with BULLETS in them because it is safer to leave them in than try to remove them surgically.)
However, you can do something about the idiot with the airgun.
First of all, contact him and ask him to pay for the vet bill. If he is unwilling to take responsibility for his actions, sue him for the money. I am sure you would win and he would learn an important lesson. (You would also ask for the fees necessary for the lawsuit)
Do NOT let him get away with it or he will do it again to someone else's pet or maybe their child!

I think it safe to assume that if the vet believed the shot would affect the cat long term he would have mentioned it. I once had a cat that, several years before I had her, had been shot at (I believe she had strayed into a chicken farm and was shot for worrying the livestock). She ended up with three lead pellets in her front leg, and she lived merrily to be about sixteen when she finally died of old age. She didn't limp, and the shot caused her no trouble at all.
If problems do develop later, however, it is important to make sure any vet knows that this happened so he can accurately determine if any problems are caused by this or are unrelated.

That's such a sick thing to do to an animal.
Is there any way that you can use a magnet to draw the pellet out without damaging the nerves? That pellet is not going to stay in one place and moving around, it may do further damage to the nerves than if the vet were to try and take it out.
I would go for a second opinion, not vbecause I think your vet doesn't know what he's doing, but to make absolutely sure all bases are covered.

If it was an air gun pellet, a simple X-Ray will indicate if it was something like a Prometheus steel tipped pellet, or a lead pellet. If it was steel tipped and after a couple weeks your cat seems to not be in any pain, then i would imagine she'll be OK with it in her. If it was lead i would imagine leaving it in would cause more trouble than them risking hitting a nerve. (Long term you understand)

If the pellet is led the cat will die of poisoning deffo , some cats can be vermin as the **** in other peoples graders and property . Young kids can get all sorts of diseases from cat **** etc . Keep your cats at home and then they will not get shot .

If caught, I wonder what sob story the perpetrator would come up with for doing such a despicable thing. NO doubt society would be at fault. I would cheerfully boot the miscreant up and down the high street and take my chances in front of the Maker if called to book!

Poor wee puss, but your vet knows best so you will have to go with what he/she tells you. However I'd be looking for a yob with an airgun and teaching him a painfull lesson.

I wish your cat well, i agree there should be something done to keep these idiots away from air-pistols, its not fun and really cruel, i would personaly like to get hold of these people and hold a gun up to them to see if they would like it, bet they wont....

Your cat should be fine, however, i think you should file a complaint with the police.
You dont want this to happen again.
I cant stand people who do things like this to animals.
I hope your cat feels better soon.
