HI. I have a red tabby (Orange), and my vet tells me that Tabby, used to be just a color thing, but that now they are considered a breed, and are entered into some pretty snooty cat shows.

A definition of a species is the ability to produce fertile offspring by breeding in the crtitters' natural environment. A tabby and a Siamese (or any other variant) will produce fertile offspring given the slightest opportunity. This means that all house cats are of the same species but different appearance.

It's a pattern and Tabby's are known to be striped and have the tell tale "M" on the forehead. Tabby's are cats and all cats are the same species.

It's the striped fur pattern. Your cat's breed is most likely domestic short haired. It's species is felis catus.
