That is probably how low they have to sink...First it was E-Dating, now it is E-Guru or Mentor, or... something.

I agree with you. Sometimes though the friends or people around you aren't always giving you the best advice either. That's for those who do go to their friends about problems and such. And have you ever had someone tell you a story or a situation that didn't make sense to you and you said maybe something like"well that's dumb I would have done it this way." Its somewhat similar here its other people from all walks of life, and different stages looking at your question. Some have experience some are still too immature. You get input that you wouldn't normally get. They are NOT words to live by though everyone should know that they are just SUGGESTIONS IF,keyword IF you have trouble making decisions.

It's not that people are making decisions for you, You have already thought it through, you just want different opionions on it. Different angles or perspectives you may have missed. I can't imagine anyome making a rational decision based soley on some strangers advice, but to take heed to it, think it through and then make your decision is more likely.
Most of all, were strangers to one another, there are some things you just don't want to talk about to anyone, family or friends, this is the perfect place to lie something on the line, that no-one else you want in your life to have knowledge of.

I am not sure of something... What makes you think that they take the advice TO THE LETTER?!! :) Just because the asker picks a best answer and says: "OK, thank you for the advice, I will do that" or something similar, it does not mean that they will actually act on it. Maybe, they are just being POLITE. Maybe, the best answers helped a person to clarify her/his ideas, think things through thanks to the many different perspectives/options and arrive at her/his OWN conclusion.
Besides, a lot of people, especially in "Singles and Dating", "Beauty and Style", "Men's Health" sound like they could be really young. Maybe they are not too sure about their ideas because they are INEXPERIENCED in life and want to explore their options, or maybe they feel LONELY and depressed and seek solace and support, or maybe they just ask questions only to have FUN and have a laugh, or maybe they are merely ADVENTUROUS/CURIOUS about other people's opinions and want to EXPLORE what is going on around them. I think there could be many other reasons we haven't thought about before that we could mention.

Sometimes it helps to get a stranger's perspective on things. It can be easier than talking to friends or family, and the range of outlooks and experiences of people on here is unmatched anywhere else. I have had some excellent support and advice from people on here.
There will always be idiots who make dumb suggestions, but it is usually easy to sift those out and concentrate on the serious and helpful answers.
It's pretty heartwarming at times to know that strangers out there who have nothing to gain (other than a few useless points) actually care enough to offer some advice.

I answer things I feel I'm credible in. I google/wiki questions that interest me and that I'd like to know the answer to; so I read a number of sites and make a decision as to what sounds true/logical. I always (well, almost always) cite where I got stuff so people can check and make their own decisions.

Yahoo! Answers is an advice site. Part of a statement being counted as advice is its ability to be taken or left alone. In other words, you take or leave advice. I do. I've heard advice from many people, but that doesn't mean I will revamp my life based on what they say.

They don't! Surely you realize this is a forum where people can get ideas or just see something from a prospective they had not thought of. This is a great sounding board for people who do not have a support system or just to vent without repercussions. Sounds like you could use a new prospective.

It's the same thing in real life for some people. If they're incapable of making a decision on their own, they'll ask people around them. If they're really helpless, they'll just do whatever people tell them.
Yahoo just makes it easy to ask many many people at once.

It is not about people here determing our life or stuff... but sometimes you need some advice to help and you are free to take it or not ... sometimes you need just to speak out .. it is not that serious and not silly at same time.
