I have had my Lovie for about 3 weeks and he is no longer timid when I approach his cage. He is timid, however, when I put my hand in his cage. He does not seem to mind when I change his water or food, he used to freak out. I feel closer to him but want more closeness from him. He is also not sure of me when I wear my hair down. When it is up he seems at ease while I approach his cage. I always talk to him either way. I have tried for a few days in a row to get him to perch on my hand, but to no avail, he is scared. I am already attatched to him and take him outside often(in his cage), he seems to enjoy this activity a lot. He spends most of the time talking to me while outside. It is almost like he is telling me Tahnk You! Please help me if you can. I want to touch him and show him that I love him.

By the way, he is a Lutino Lovebird. He mimics me all the time. It is like he knows me but does not trust me. He watches my every move and greets me when I get home. I think he also knows when I am leaving when he mimics Birdie Bird. Should I just grab him and stroke him everyday till he gets used to me touching him?

It's too early! You need patience and a lot of effort. Gradually teach him to eat from your hand, First offer him sth. like an apple slice from outside the cage, then after you've managed that start offering him seeds in the cage. Oh, and lovebirds must live in couples, you must have 2 of them (male+female), otherwise they are just miserable!

My sister bought a pair of ring neck parrot, It has been over a year. Up unitl today they only like my brother-in-law, he changes the food/water, clean the cage, he talks to them more than my sister. They won't even let anyone(except my brother-in-law) pet them. Just be around him and let him get used to you. He'll eventually sense your love and come to you. slowly try to stroke him on top of the head, they love that, just be carefull, if they don't know you they might peck.
