At this time the United States military is more than capable to stand against any aggression if needed. But we must remain vigilant to the fact that China is rapidly increasing her military technologies and capabilities far faster than any nation before. Though the annual military spending is only half of the United States in actual dollars, it is over twice as much as a percentage of GDP. They are spending twice as much of their available resources on the military. Add the fact the they have been increasing military spending 17% annually for awhile now we cannot discount a possible threat in the future.

Russia is no longer a threat to world peace, even though they still posses most of the nuclear weapon capability of the USSR. Russia is not quite a democracy, but it is a far more open society than before, and its leaders recognize reality. For example, Russia is not going to try to re-conquer the breakaway former Soviet republics (Ukraine, Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania, the central Asian 'stans, etc.). The PRC is another story. A big question is: How connected to reality is the PRC's leadership? For example, the PRC has been trying to develop naval and amphibious warfare capabilities for more than a decade. In the case of the PRC, the only possible reason for spending the money involved is to be able to invade its overseas neighbors, such as the Philippines and Japan (not just Taiwan). Also, the PRC > does < tend to think long-term, so working on a military capability which is "is still 25 years" in the future is not unusual. The problem for the PRC is a societal change is needed to produce the citizens that can support a sophisticated military. That change can't happen unless the PRC stops being a society with only two parts - a relatively small "elite" and the rest of the country being nearly-illiterate "workers". The challenge for the PRC is how to create the educated, technically-skilled population base needed to support an advanced military without allowing democracy to develop. It's not impossible. After all, Hitler's Germany (yes, I am comparing the CCP to Hitler) possessed a technically-skilled population that supported an advanced military that waged aggressive war of conquest with little in the way of questions. So did Tojo's Japan. Of course, Hitler and Tojo actually inherited countries that already possessed educated populations, and it was before the existence of today's almost-unstoppable mass communications. Things didn't work out so well for Hitler's Germany or Tojo's Japan. Note that part of Hitler's & Tojo's decision-making process was an assumption the western democracies were weak, corrupt and "degenerate" because of immigration/diversity and the fact democracy is a messy political system. They were also affected by the global financial crisis of the 1930s and believed only "strong government" (read: Dictatorship) was effective. Does the leadership of the PRC view the world the same way as Hitler and Tojo? Do they see the current debate over how to correct the financial mistakes of the past (borrowing too much money) as a fatal weakness of the West and not realize "debate to consensus" is how things are accomplished in a democracy? Will the PRC start WW III out of conceit and prejudice? --------------------------------------- To Freely. You are missing the point - at least one CCP "minder" (informant) was with the people in the group. The others could NOT afford to say anything except to praise the PRC & CCP as being better than anywhere else in all things. They risked dire consequences if they even hinted the PRC was not superior in all ways to everywhere/everything else. It is a sign of totalitarianism, and Soviet citizens who visited the West during the USSR time did the same thing.

Yes and it should be every Americans concerns, that is why we need to keep a straight up and inflexible foreign policy.
Right now the US is the only superpower in the World, and China may have the numbers. But, the US has the experience and technology to back our play in any theater of war, and China has none of those qualities at this time. They lack the experience and technology to compete with the US at this current time. And the future can change this, Americans will have to learn to stomach it's future real soon, and get ready for a big showdown and nothing less.

China's Military is nothing compared to America's Military,it's small by comparison,The United States spends more money on Military Defense than the rest of the world combined(with Military Bases all over the world,to protect their interests).America is the only country in the History of the world to drop atomic bombs on another country (exterminating millions of innocent citizens without any remorse)America starts Wars of Aggression on small countries that cannot defend themselves such as North Vietnam,Panama,Iraq,Afghanistan,to name a few.America thinks it owns the whole world but a small band of Brave Iraqi Freedom Fighters are fighting American Imperialism in Iraq and they're Winning!Yes I'm a Communist and I'm Proud of it!

in 20 years, they could easily beat us in a war unless we do something to stem the tide of military secrets flowing into China from our military, and we have to increase defense spending like the Reds, and soon get ourselves untangled from Iraq

We would stand a chance because no one would just let it happen. Other countries would come to our aid because if they didn't then no one would have a chance of standing up to China ever again. Our weapons and numbers are the only close thing to the chinese. The Russians have weapons but no numbers. The rest of the world has limited weapons and numbers. Besides Britain who has some weapons and Israel who has GREAT weapons because they purchase them all from us!

To stand against China, yes.
Occupying it. No.
Why? one word, population.
US have allies and more advanced technology, she can win a conventional warfare against China.
If other intervenes against US, I don't know. There are many things we don't know. Miracles and turning tides also happens ya?
to those that believe US can survive by her own, your wrong, no country can survive by her own.

china can beat america perhaps, if only its a limited war, if it is a nuke war, then all will die, america thinks they can just go to any country and start bombing it and taking over! they need to be taught a lesson. besides, china has treaty with Pakistan, they would help them out, if not physically, then behind the scenes, Iran, N.korea and Cuba too, also Russia and many others who arent afraid of america, but i hope nuke war never happens, that would truely end humanity, well with a guy like bush being elected all the time wat do u expect??? Oh and BTW, Cgina does truely hate america, same with japan, would you still like a country that droped atomic bombs on your country? never forgive them would you, soem thigns you cant forgive.
