I received this self descriptor from someone and I have no clue what "boriquita" might mean. It was written by a foreign born woman who lives here in the U.S. who contacted me on a photo sharing site. Google and yahoo searches didn't help finding a definition or a translation. I think it might be a slang or sound alike kind of word. Please advise.. THX

Boriquita is defining a small female Puerto Rican. Boricua comes from the word Borinquen. Borinquen is that name that the Tainos gave to Puerto Rico. Tainos are the Native Americans that lived in Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Haiti around the Caribbean. Borinquen is a Taino word for "Land of the Brave Lords"...Haiti is also a Taino world for "mountainous lands" and "Huracan" for hurricane is also a Taino word.
