First, say Como se di se...(the word you want in Spanish) en espanol? This will tell the Spanish speaker that you are looking for the right word!
Second, get a program like Rosetta Stone or Instant Immersion for easy at home work!
Take a class or have a friend help you out! Trying from online is just short of impossible! You need to hear the language in order to speak it!

Well if you want to learn spanish, you just have to start.. why don't you make an small trip to South America, it is cheaper than to going to Spain, and there are tremendous cultural and fascinanting stuff to see. But attention, every country and region have different accents, just like in Spain, where in fact are 4 main languages spoken: Catalan * Galician * Euskera and Castilian (Castellano, commonly known as Spanish). I recommend you to start with a trip to Perú, in the coast the spanish is mostly correct, you can go to Colombia, Chile... in Argentina and Uruguay certain words like you (tu) are change by "vos" ... and the end of some verb are differently accented. But at the end you are going to practice Spanish, and meet this fantastic culture and places. Good luck.
And! the question was? jaja yeah.. "Common Spanish Words" which common spanish words you need to know!?
¡Hola! (hi)
¿Cómo estas? (how are you?)
Mi nombre es ........(my name is)
Tengo.. X.. años... . (I am .X.. years old) the verb used to tell age is the equivalent to "have" in english = tener.
Yo tengo
Tu tienes
El o ella tienen
Nosotros tenemos
Vosotros teneis/ Ustedes tienen *
Ellos tienen
Meaning: I have, you have, she has, we have, you have, they have....
* In the modern spanish is mostly used "ustedes" instead of "vosotros" .. in spain this is the most common way to say it yet.
