The christian lifestyle is not a life of doe's and don't as many think it is but rather-asking yourself "Will this please our Lord? Could I take Him to this place with me and know He would be glad to go with me, etc."Can have sex with this guy without marriage, and on and on. We are to please our Lord who gave His life for us that we might have life and have it more abundantly-and He is not talking about living a life of immorality!

Depends if you only want to submit certain things in your life to God, or submit everything. It doesn't mean you need to listen to bands that are purely Christian, but they should not be singing things that go against Christian values. For instance you do not need to listen to hymns now, you just have to be careful that songs do not talk about the joy of having four girlfriends at once.
Try checking out the band Apologetix, they take non-Christian songs and do Christian versions. They have done a few Green Day songs, "Casket Place" instead of Basket case or something like that, and they also did "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" which they called "Boulevard of Both Extremes".
Just for instance of what they do, the original goes:
Read between the lines
What's f**ed up and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive and I walk alone
Apologetix changes it to:
We see Jesus Christ
Lets walk up to him he seems alright
Yet in Bible times
You know its not allowed we must walk alone
The song is about the leper healings. I like changing "vital signs" to "Bible times". Some people love Apologetix, others hate them and think they just rip off songs. I think they have tons of talent. There are Christian bands I may like more such as Thousand Foot Krutch and Demon Hunter, but I think Apologetix truly has the most talent.

Green Day uses foul language, incorporates adult themes into their music ("when masturbation's lost its edge") and encourages political dissent while bashing the current President. Rap artists are no better because the lyrics are filled with disrespectful attitudes towards women, law enforcement, and rival rappers. There are tons of other bands and genres of music that are worse those mentioned above.
Christianity is not a lifestyle, it is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The question I ask is this:
If you are a Christian, then why would you Want to listen to Green Day?

I am a Christian, and any legalist that would tell me that would probably be thankful if I didn't have a radio or CD player around. Because if they started on me like that they would be finding themselves hearing: Green Day, RUSH, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Alice in Chains, Yes, Tori Amos, Enya, Ronnie James Dio, Michael Schenker, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kansas, Pink Floyd, Bush, Linkin Park, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Grateful Dead ( and I don't even like Grateful Dead), Van Halen, and many, many more.

Music isn't the problem. Lyrics are the problem. I used to listen to Metallica and Black Sabbath before I became a child of God. Now I listen to Petra and Kutless. Same style of music with different lyrics.
If you like Green Day, find a Christian version of them at your local Christian book store. You might be surprised.

You still have free choices, try to let your conscience guide your decisions. It's hard to find Christian bands that rock like Green Day. Check out a band called the Prayer Chain, their album Mercury is legendary.

When I was a Christian I used to have congregation members go through my movie collection and tell me I was inviting evil into my home by having them there. @@

if your christianity is a serious one.... then like Paul said, you would discard all that would hinder your new life in Christ and call it dung, in exchange for the value of knowing Christ in a greater, deeper way.
but if you're not interested in doing that... then Paul would call it being a babe in Christ, serving the flesh.
