The pet store has something you can attach to the cage for mites, I think that is what they are. Good luck:)

They could very well be fleas or lice.

As everyone knows, there are plenty of external parasites as well. Arthropods are external parasites and include fleas, mites, ticks and lice. These are somewhat more common with captive-bred birds than infestation with internal parasites, but still avoidable and, most importantly, treatable. Symptoms include feather plucking, feather degradation and skin inflammation. Nothing beats a close inspection though, and many parasites are visible with the naked eye.

If your bird picks up some external freeloaders, your veterinarian will prescribe a powder or spray for external use. Keeping the bird clean by misting or bathing will also help keep the bird bug-free in the first place. Prevention of re-infestation follows along the same rules as for preventing a recurrence of internal parasites. Follow the rules and your bird will be as happy as a clam.

I used to have a wren box on my front porch. I never saw any bugs, until they would learn to fly and they would all fly away in one day. Then I would notice little bugs too, bird lice. I took the box from the front porch, because I have pet birds, and like to take them out on the porch, so didn't want them picking up bird lice. The box was white, and the outside of the box would be covered with the lice, once the birds flew.

So did you learn your lesson? Mama bird was probably watching you take her baby anyways. Just because you find a baby bird doesn't mean that the parents are still not caring for it. Birds will continue feeding their babies even if they fall from the nest. Now you have fleas, and a baby bird that probably won't survive. Next time leave it alone and let nature take it's course.

Call a local bird/aviary rescue. We have rescued birds but 1. Do not bring them in the actual house (keep in the garage). 2. They are wild and carry bugs and/or disease...always wear gloves. Sick birds are more likely to carry bugs (the parents could have ejected it from the nest on purpose for that reason).

They do sound like mites. If they jump - they are fleas and you are really in for some problems.

Some birds are illegal to keep/raise (even temporary) depending on your county/state laws. Birds can die if given the wrong food.

I would call your local police department, humane society or DNR.

if it is a young baby it could be getting its pin fethers in
i read a long time ago that if you give the baby a little more water it will help th pin fethers grow out i dont no if it is true or not tho

the one you found on u may have just fallen out of the bird

if they are moving around its definatly not pinfethers lol it may have lice or something go to the pet store they sell stuff to get rid of birds lice

shounds like pin feathers to me if you dont no what a pin fether is look it up on google to see if what i am saying is not bugs

mites, fleas or ticks.

since its a baby bird, maybe just a cat flea/tick collar laying in the corner of the box might help some.

glad to see you raising it to fly. I have saved a bird before.

Some type of fleas or mites. Check your area to see if theres a local bird rescue and have them take it for you. Eew.

fleas?

If the bug problem is bad enough to require chemicals, be VERY careful. With such a small critter they are likely to make it very sick.
