In scientific usage, a theory does not mean an unsubstantiated guess or hunch, as it can in everyday speech. A theory is a logically self-consistent model or framework for describing the behavior of a related set of natural or social phenomena. It originates from or is supported by experimental evidence (see scientific method). In this sense, a theory is a systematic and formalized expression of all previous observations that is predictive, logical and testable. In principle, scientific theories are always tentative, and subject to corrections or inclusion in a yet wider theory. Commonly, a large number of more specific hypotheses may be logically bound together by just one or two theories. As a general rule for use of the term, theories tend to deal with much broader sets of universals than do hypotheses, which ordinarily deal with much more specific sets of phenomena or specific applications of a theory.

Yeah, I'm well aware of what it means in the sciences, thanks. I minored in geology in college. And I've never, ever had a problem reconciling science and religion.
Now let me ask you something: Are you aware that asking questions with implied generalizations makes you look foolish?

Yes, I am aware of it. And by definition, a theory is not a proven truth.
The theory of evolution is often presented as fact and as truth when it is not. Christians are often riticized for not believing that it is truth. They are told that creationism is not possible because there is not evidence. But the truth is, the evidence supporting the possibility of "intelligent design by an intelligen designer" is far greater than the evidence to support one giant accident that happened to create life.
And it is also assumed that Christians and scientist are in opposition to each other. Nothing could be further from the truth. Science merely discovers what is already there. The difference is that Christians believe God put it there. Scientists are still trying figure out how it got there.

One must remember, they are the ones who dropped Gen Chem before mid-term. They enjoy babbling on about things they don't have a clue about. And their not going to try to understand...because that would require actual thought!
Did you see their responses to Global Warming Q?
Pathetic...the lack of education on the subject!
I tell you what really makes me angry, I have spent the last couple of years in college science courses. I made good grades, and learned alot, but it's nothing compared to our professors knowledge. And these idiots think they know better than someone who has dedicated their life to the field of science! Makes me wish I could take all the luxuries that science has developed out of their lives for just one day. Then we'll see just how SMART they feel!

It makes me wonder why Atheists here and elsewhere are so determined to talk so much about something that they say is unscientific. They spend a lot of time discussing things that are nothing to do with science. And then to call themselves Atheists is a rather unscientific thing, because unless God said, " I exist" they have no proof. And yet they ask and ask Christians for proof. I would say that their method is lacking in this department. Who told them that anyone could prove God to them except God? So why are they asking us?
I figure that one reason why there are so many Atheists talking about something they figure is so impossible is because they find science rather boring. They really don't think that there is anything to do with science that they want to spend as much time on. In essence, I am saying that science is just a cover, and the application of scientific method is soemthing that most of them do not do, and may never had done, unless they were in school being 'forced' to do it.
So it's all interesting that science is so well defined. But the type of Atheists that we typically enocounter are those that really have no life, and have nothing better to do than to ask stupid questions. Not yours, because I find that your definition was interesting as well as your approach. Also you were only slightly condescending by asking Christians that question. Are you going to ask the Atheists that question too? Because so many of them only pay science lip service.

Yes Christians know what the word theory means, but also we know the more that science learns the more the see the logic of the Bible words. Science is very much like doctors, they do not heal people, God does, but they practice medicine, or cutting on people to remove illnesses in America, in China they practice medicine complete different than here in USA, who is to say cutting is always correct way to practice. Same is true with theories, who is to say which theory is closest to the truth. Close does not count when a life is at stake, same is true for your spiritual body if you believe you even have one. All religions came from the same source it is your job to decide while we still live in a free country which religion and which form of medicine you will use.
But God does not live inside of time and space so all of the Laws of Time and Space do not apply to him or his world, he lives in another deminsion called eternity. But because the churches do not know God or where he lives they try and define him by things we see and understand and miss him by about a million miles or years.
But the Bible is the only book I know of that tells us everything we need to know about who he is where he came from and where we are and where we are going, and was written by a person that cannot lie, or fail, but I know for many people this is just fairy tales, and I actually understand their thinking also because the first 22 years of my life I thought very much like them also. But my knowledge has no theories involved in it. And speaking of science---- how can Light have properties of both a wave and straight partical at the same time, this is just one thing until this day science cannot explain why Light which the Bible says is God can have properties of both wave motion and straight line depending on test run. Or if you like another how and why we even heal when we are cut or damaged, crabs actually grow limbs back also?

Most can't even comprehend all that you just said. This is not to knock anyone but is the sad truth. They don't know because they don't HAVE to know. They just let their God take care of all that technical stuff, while they rail against freedom of choice and tell gays they are all sinners for being born gay. Boy; Are THEY ever in for a surprise!!!

Some of them are smart and are aware of it, and use it in the correct terms.
Some are aware of the correct scientific definition, but choose to bend bend the definition to suit their purpose anyway.
Some are honestly not aware of the correct scientific definition.

Don't assume that all Christians are brainwashed creationists. There are some who actually realize that life evolves.

Yes... but are you aware of how much "scientific evidence" is made up or manipulated either out of ignorance or manipulation to prove their theory?

What about String Theory? Super String Theory? M Theory?
Have you ever seen evolution?
...or do you just see the effects of it & read the rest in books? Are books proof enough?
