I just had a barium upper GI test and am waiting for results. I think they want to rule out Crohn's Disease, but what are some other diagnoses that this procedure can show?
Thanks!

They have got you to drink a substance that will really show up on the x-rays. Obviously you have seen your Doc with a problem of the upper GI as in throat to stomach. Mine was from small intestine to bowel, not upper GI. I assume your symptoms are upper GI as in problem with swallowing rather than Crohn's Disease which affects the intestine.

It tells you if and/or where you might have a bowel obstruction or narrowing. They are performing this test (probably will get a colonoscopy as well) to see if you really do have Crohn's disease.
