Get caller ID. If you don't recognize the number, don't answer. If it's someone you know, they'll leave a message on your answering maching. If it's BS, they won't. They will eventually give up... I know this from experience!

Definitely sign up for the Do Not Call list and get rid of most of these calls. Problem is, non-profit organizations can still call you so if you don't recognize the number on your caller ID, don't answer. If it's anything important, the caller will leave a message. Most don't so that eliminates being bothered.

I agree, DON"T ANSWER. Even if you don't have caller I.D. Although it is a good idea to get that also. If I'm in the bathroom and the phone rings, it doesn't get answered. If it's really important they'll call back. Caller I.D., DON'T ANSWER, also if you happen to answer and find out it's them again. HANG UP. You may think it's rude to hang up on people. They are being rude to you by caling and rambeling like they do, not letting you get a word in edgewise. It's happened to me too. So I know what you're talking about. I had one that called and wanted my credit card #. I tried to tell them, I have NO CREDIT CARDS!! They didn't believe me and asked for my checking account #!! I hung up. It's nuts out there!!! Good Luck

What I do when those darn telemarketers call is swear at them or pretend that I'm a French jerk who doesn't know English. :)
