I have always been fairly heavy throughout my life, and at the moment I am 5'9'' and I have held steady at 200 lbs. [finally an end to the yo-yo-ing of my weight?]

However, it is extremely embarassing to step on a scale. Friends, coworkers, and classmates all believe I weigh FAR LESS than I actually do -> Almost always about 30-50 less than my actual weight.

Are there certain characteristics that you think may be the reason that people *think* I look skinner than I am?

[Curious]

Your weight can be spread out over your entire body. Then you look skinnier. If all the extra weight was in your tummy, it would be noticeable. Just remember your weight is just a number, and muscle weighs more than fat. If you are happy with the way you look, and are leading a healthy life, then forget about how much you weigh. By the way, I too am 5'9" and weigh anywhere between 180 and 200 ( I keep yo-yoing as well). I don't think there is a reason people *think* you are skinnier than you look. Most of the time, we think we are fatter than what we look.

By the way, ignore what these people say. I have weighed 145 and got the same attention from guys then as I do now. I have been married for 3 years now. Ignore them and be happy with yourself.

You look lighter than you weigh? That must mean you must be a real muscular chick, no offense.

I'm a guy who gets that often, since I've been weight training for the past 6 years. Before, I had 195 pounds on a 5'11" frame. People say I actually look like a 170-pounder.

That's basically because muscle's heavier than fat.

I know you girls get a lot more conscious about it, though.

There are a few things that might make you appear lighter than you are.Do you wear solid colors instead of prints or stripes?Do you wear clothing one or two sizes larger than you actually are?Has exercising given you more lean muscle mass?I am 6'1" and weigh 270 yet nobody believes me until I step on a scale and prove it.Dont feel embarrassed by your weight,as long as you are comfortable and dont have health risks then you are fine.We cant all be size twos or have a 30 inch waist.how boring would that be?

Yeah, you probably appear tall. Furthermore this is a compliment. You are probably the few of the ladies where weight looks good on you. You probably wouldn't look good if you were superthin. You are probably proportioned very nicely, I can't say this for sure since you have no photo. So embrace your thickness and be happy people don't think you are fifty more than you really are.. But anyway, it's your height most likely.

First of all being 5'9" and 200 lbs is perfetcly fine. Why would you be standing on a scale with co workers ect.? Don't worry about them as long as you are healthy and feel fine about yourself. I think the majority of women in this country feel uncomfortable about their weight when it's so unnecessary.

Muscle weighs more than fat. Are you muscular? Many woman have know idea how to guess the weight of a woman who is 5'9. They are too close-minded to the 5'3 105 lb image.

you may just carry it well... good proportions and all.

the characteristics you have? Are you happy? people love to be around happy and see them for that.... are you caring... people loved to be cared for. are you optimistic? People love being with others that see positively.... Perhaps people see you for who and what you are rather than the skin you are in and in the long run isn't that the better thing?
