I believe that if you are praying or putting material things ahead of God/Jesus then you are worshiping a false god. People do this all the time. The most important thing in your life should be the relationship you have between God and yourself.
If the main focus in your life is making money, then money is your false god, your are devoting you life to making money, nothing is more important to you.
If the only important thing in your life is making music. that is all you think about, the lyrics, the notes, your guitar solo, then you have made that more important than your relationship with God, you have created your false idol.
Anything per se could be a false god, anything or anyone you value over God Himself is considered a false god/idol.

Ah, see, you are trying to thoughtfully apply logic to matters of religion. It just doesn't work that way.
You mean that any God mentioned by anyone, anywhere, must Obviously be the one God followed by any monotheistic practitioner. But if you call it anything other than what any one of those practitioners call it, or believe it did anything differently, or it wants different things than what they (that one practitioner) want... then that one is not the same as yours and thus false. Because there is only One, you know. And he can't be two... even if he's unanimously considered to be three... um...
And thus the logic just can't stick. Perhaps you should try to run for Pope. Then you could work to change all of this.

beautiful question, although it seems that it is surprisingly difficult for some people to understand.
The problem is people have been taught that there is only ONE WAY TO God.
I believe this can be blamed squarely on the churches, mosques etc that stood to profit from having loyal followers.
I also believe that hell was created to scare people into 'converting'.
The key points made by most prophets seem very simple, compassionate and similar to me. I would be very surprised if Jesus, Mohammed, Abraham and Buddha thought that they served different masters.
What really gets me is the fact that Christians, Jews & Muslim all essentially share the same Old Testament God, but disagree because there is only one TRUE messenger.
'There is more than one way to skin a cat'
People need to chill-out and trust their own minds more, rather than take on faith what a global organisation, traditionally spread by violence tells them.
Prophets not Profits!

Well the idea is that they aren't gods, they're fakes, phonies. A better interpretation would be to say that they seem as if they are gods, like money, but are really just counterfeits, or false. It does not mean that they actually exist as gods, acting for the false, or wrong side.

Your confused. One who describes or talks of a god of this and the god of that, is not speaking of the one True God. Yes, God is the God of all things, but He is one person. There is no god of sun and another god of the moon. Neither can one accurately describe God as anything other than the Great I Am.
Anyone one claiming to do harm or immoral things are not doing it in the name of (or for) the true God. It is done for a false god, Satan, or out of ignorance of the true God.

Actually, there is a common line of thought that the Isrealites of old were polytheistic.
As defense of this, they site that the Ten Commandments state that there shall be no "false gods before Me." (the True God).
The commandment does not say that these 'false gods' don't exist, merely that they are false (i.e., liars) and that it is bad to listen to them.
The True God is telling the Isrealites that He will always be true and that is why they should follow Him.

A "false god" in that sense is referring to anything that we set up in place of God, or put before God in our lives. For instance, money or wealth can become a false god, something we give all our time and energy too above all else.

False means not real. people can still believe in something thats not real.
Another example would be there are rolex watches and false rolex watches. You might find it appealing but its not the real deal. Not that i am saying that my god is the true god, but that is what i believ to be a fair answer to that question

Your understanding is skewed. A false-god in Christianity is any hunk of rock or wood that someone would pray to or seek audience with. The demonic beings are referred to as "demi-gods"-wannabe's. The hunks of rock or wood are often associated with a specific demon whether that entity is actually present in it or not. It takes away from God that which is His alone. And no- just because someone mentions a "false-god" in connection with God's name does not link it with God. This is a grossly fallacious argument that atheists are trying to use to assert that Christians must somehow "worship alot of different gods because of believing in one God." Sorry, no dice.

according to the bible there is one almighty god but all angels are sons of God almighty and are gods. Read Job 1:6, 2:1 and Psalms 82:1-6, and check what the bible says.
