You just gotta be smart about what you download, that's all. After years of using limewire, it's pretty easy to tell which is a virus and which isn't.

On August 4, 2006, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) sued LimeWire, alleging that it was profiting from unauthorized downloads.[6] On September 25, 2006 LimeWire countersued the RIAA for antitrust violations.[7]

On May 12, 2006, the BBC reported that "Limewire" and "Lime wire" were among search terms likely to return links to malware from an Internet search engine.[8]

CA Anti-Spyware (formerly PestPatrol) flags LimeWire as spyware, and also detects Kazaa as being installed on computers with LimeWire.

In addition, some have mistakenly posted private personal copies of business documents on LimeWire which are available through standard searches. Some found documents include credit checks, tax records, cancelled checks, and other documents stored in a variety of formats. This has opened the door to identity theft. Attorneys have cautioned several companies, including mortgage lenders, real estate agents, attorneys, contractors, and others, that the use of LimeWire by employees opens them up to significant liability.

short anwser yes. the correct answer is no. because Limewire is a file sharing program that allows Internet users to share music from each other. Its not all that legal but its been popular. Its a great system to share all kinds of files.... including files that are infected by virus and trojans. Always make sure you have some virus scanner checking out those files that you download from other people to be safe. Dont cough in public places, wash you hands before you eat and especially when you touch anything in public and always use protection when sharing your data.

The program itself dos not. It is the jerks that use it. Limewire is perhaps the biggest virus distribution source. It and bearshare caters to low end and gullible people. There are other peer to peer networks, but they are only as good as the users, both those that distribute and those that recieve. Unless you are technically proficient, dont use p2p. Free music isnt free if it turns your $1500 computer into a $150 computer.

If you download things from Limewire that contain malicious software, why not. The program itself is free of viruses and the like though. Just be careful and stick to files that have many hosts: they are most likely to be free of viruses. (and stay off porn)!!!

Only if you download a file off of it that has a virus.......usually if you stick to just songs and not programs, pics, videos, or applications, then you should be fine.
