Exodus 20:4 states, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, OR ANY LIKENESS OF ANY THING that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth." (KJV, emphasis mine)

Why do Protestants participate in the Satanic work that is photography?! I ask this of Protestants because we already know the Catholics and the Orthodox are going to fry in HELL for reasons too numerous to mention. But it is not too late for Protestants! Smash your cameras, get on your knees, and beg Our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive you for your sinful picture-taking!

Wisdom, what part of "ANY LIKENESS" do you not understand?

graven = engraved image or a statue (something made with "graving tools" by the hand of a human).

A Christian is not to bow down before or ask intersession of or worship an engraved image or a statue.

A cross or crucifix would fit this so would a picture that someone uses as a focus point of prayer such as an image on a stone or paper.

Memorabilia of family pictures or places visited is not worshiped or used in prayer.

A religious group that broadens this commandment by God may be working toward eliminating a person's attachment and love of family and fellow humankind:

1. Manipulate and narrow the range of a person’s feelings.

2. Make the person feel like if there are ever any problems it is always their fault, never the leader’s or the group’s.

3. Excessive use of guilt

a. Identity guilt

1. Who you are (not living up to your potential)
2. Your family
3. Your past
4. Your affiliations
5. Your thoughts, feelings, actions

LOL, the best one yet!

Are you God by any chance? I always thought only "He" had the final say as to who is condemned or not. Did he not say judge not and you shall not be judged?

Well to make an analogy of old Petronius in the novel Quo Vadis, go on, run down the Orthodox, condemn the Catholics, frighten the protestants to death but for Christ's sake do not desecrate the arts like photography and painting!

1st, what power does Satan have? none, but to con people into disobeying God.

2nd, photography is the work of Men.

3) Taking photos are not the graven images that Exodus 20 is speaking of. The Graven images are that of golden calfs and other graven images such as goddess statues and such. This is also to prohibit the worshiping of such idols. In this the Catholic Church is disobiedient as they have the very graven images within thier churches and on their crosses and they do some level of service to them as the places of prayer are often before these images and they have food and flowers placed about them by devoute followers who are not fully aware they are sinning..

You actually think you are being clever, and the ironic thing is that it only proves your total and complete ignorance. We are laughing at you, not with you. I'll explain ( and will try to use small words so you can keep up) The "image" in the passage refers to idols to false gods primarily. Did you just skip the part where it says "...make unto thee..."? That sort of makes the whole difference in the passage. I don't know what's worse, people like you who find this amusing, or fellow Christians who do the same thing to the Bible to justify some ridiculous belief.

Oh for the love of God !! Geeee, maybe it was all those half elephant half man thingies that made God kinda mad so He had to make some rules!
Personally, I have always felt that what is being said there is do not make a bunch of idols of good or evil to worship, simply worship God. The picture thing is just beyond dumb, and so totally not linked to writing in the Bible as photographs were not even invented then. A duh !

I heard a theory once that every photograph taken really does steal a part of your soul and that is why the US in particular has so much crime and cruelty towards others. Does that count?

I like your point....never thought about it that way.

Well that is pretty technical and therefore free.

Anything IN heaven; we can't even see heave so we can't take a pic of something there.

anything IN the earth; That only pertains to plants and cadavers.

Anything in the water UNDER the earth; Well, that only counts if it is an underground spring or other body of water.

PEACE!

Who put the crack in your coffee this morning?
First of all the Bible was written by man and many people interpret scripture differently. Secondly what about "Judge not lest ye be judged." What makes you think you have the moral high ground to tell who is and who is not going to hell?
This question is completely whack...

You, know, you really should re-think your religion when everything is evil or the work of Satan. Especially if all the good cool stuff is Satan's. Doesn't god want you to have any fun at all?
