He had a bunch of Chinese Diplomats hats nailed to their heads since they disrespected him by not removing their hats while in his presence.

Why? Because he wreaked havoc on his Muslim oppressors? He was outnumbered many times, and his cities were put under seige. He did what he needed to do to put terror into these Muslim hordes, and he suceeded. I don't see him as being bad at all, but being ruthless because he had to be.
