Catholic priests have a vow of celibacy; hence they are not allowed to marry.

Peace and blessings!

Some do but, the majority of them do not and if one was to try to become a priest they would have to vow to remain celibate. Some married priests from other Traditions that are still united to the Pope are married and some priests from the Anglican Church or other Churches have been given a dispensation from the celibacy issue so they may remain priests but they must agree that if something happened to their wives they would remain single from that point on. Deacons in the Church are ordained and they may marry if they wish and they may marry people and all kinds of things so it is not that marriage is a detestable thing to the Church it is just that the Church knows that a priest can not keep both their Church and their Wife and children happy at the same time. How many times do they end up getting up in the middle of the night for sick parishioners and so forth. A recent poll was taken and it showed that actually many Protestant pastors and Ministers who were in the clergy for awhile tended to agree with the Catholic stance on this issue.

If you are talking about the Roman Catholic church, yes but only under one circumstance. If the priest has converted from the Anglican or Greek Orthodox, done his academics and paper work and come over he is allowed to remain married and keep his family. In the case of the others who are not already married then that vow of celebacy is taken and they cannot ever marry. My sister who lives in New Market Ontario has a former Angican priest turned Cathoilic and he was married with a family.

Catholic Priests may not marry. However, there are Catholic Priesst who ARE married. This situation is not well publicized, but it does happen: If a married Episcopalian priest converts to the Catholic faith and enters the priesthood, than this priest remains married and what you have is a married Catholic Priest ! A decade or so ago, there were around 500 married Catholic priests who became such this way. Also, there are priests who were married, but their spouse has died and afterwards they at some point decided they were called to be a priest.

There are many married Catholic priests. In the entire Eastern Rite of the Catholic Church married men can become priests. In the Latin Rite this is not usually the case. However, there are some Latin Rite married priests as well, mostly Episcopalian or Anglican priests who have converted to Catholicism. However, in both rites a man who is already ordained cannot marry.

Catholic priests are not allowed to marry. However, there are some that converted from the Episcopal Church and maybe the Luthern Church that were married before their conversion. They cannot marry again after the death of their spouse.

they SHOULD..ease the mind of folks about gay preachers..and beside..how can a priest never married knows the struggle of marriage? or child rearing or death or runaway..or whatever..they can't till they experience it.
in the bible..how to choose a deacons..which is similar to picking a pastor/priest..but NO..old dead weird religon said..no marriage is a must..in order to be a priest...GOD create men who has no need of sexual pleasure..or women..but by FORCE..isn't a right way..excuse..my opinion..priest has more time for people..true. but without personal experiences..how can they be good mentor? widow who lost a spouse..are good mentor for marriage couple..ect.
