Can you wear flip-flops in Vatican city?

In theVatican city you can dress and wear whatever you like if you are in the streets but there are limitations if you want enter churches,museums or any other ambience open to visitors.
This said if you want visit churches or museums you must respect their decency's rules.
As far as I know you can wear flip-flops but I guess they will not agree with the rest of yr clothes that can't be so informal.
Therefore I feel you should go with shoes, even tennis shoes, but I recommend you don't wear, as suggested here above, sandals with socks that immediately would draw people's attention being typical of foreign visitors but sooooooo weird to the eyes of native Italians...!!
What's mandatory you wear habits that cover your shoulders, your arms (at least till the elbow) and your legs (just below yr knees). Inside the churches (but not in the museums) women must have an head covering (even a veil).

yes i wear flip flops. why? its because i live in hawaii. its hot most days and you just want to wear something comfortable. most people here don't even wear high heels because we all about being comfortable of what we wear. also, a lot of time we go to the beach because we are surrounded by the pacific ocean, and we just wear flips flops. i am not saying that we are weird, but we can practically go barefoot when you walk the streets of waikiki and no one will care because other people are doing it too. its very casual here and there is no hustle or bustle of the city.

preferably shoes that cover your toes, so socks with sandals is okay.they're very conservative there so anyone who wears lime green flip-flops is sure to get people's attention.i would wear comfortable tennis shoes.
