You have the eyes of a Wisdom filled person...I tend to agree with you. Anyone who has found a Spiritual Path after being through the worst of the worst, experience the most horrifics of horrifics will truly be able to fathom what liberation means... THEY are the ones who will have the truly Heart felt conviction in spreading what a blessing it is to have been lifted out of the dumpiest of dumps...unlike many of us who find our faith in a nicely lit air conditioned room, dressed in Prada or Gucci, and perfectly styled hair but when a bad situation strikes Faith is out the door.... Thats mostly why so many "religious" people seem to be zealous but utterly hypocritical, because they experience little, they rebuke alot and do little and preach much.
In fact, if you look through religious texts of most faiths... many of the most inspiring prophets, sage and saints were once pretty horrible people until the met the "right" teacher who turned their hearts from stepping into shadow toward embracing the light.
Catholic Saint St Francis of Assisi was one of the worst people before he found his faith, but even when he was a prist be went through the worst of trials and thereafter found his footing and inspired million.
In Buddhism, one of the Buddha's disciples was called Angulimala was a Serial Murderer, but after meeting the Buddha his life was a total turn around from Murder to Healing.
Such examples are apparent everywhere, especially in our daily lives... when a darkened soul has been blessed with the light of Jesus, and the heart willingly and joyfully gives up the malevolence of the past and embrace the best of the future. For we cannot for a change in a heart that DOESN'T want to be changed but we can force a mind to think, and hopefully, that will inspire them to willingly want to transform and change....
THAT was basically what Jesus Christ and his years of ministry was all about... Showing Comfort to the Despaired, Giving Encouragement to the Hopeless and Showing Compassion to the ones other view as the Wicked.

Sometimes we have to go through something in order to understand something. Most people who have lived a rough life of drugs, gangs or any near death situation finds the one and only person who can help them. When others turn away because of the choices that we make There's Someone who will always be there with you and for you. His name is Jesus.
After a person has beat themselves up (abusing themselves, physically or mentally) and becomes tired or being tired, knowing that they have lost their way, once they have found Jesus they are overjoyed to know that they have another chance to do life right. So these people have a story to tell others of where the Lord has brought them from. Living the life or no hope is easy to tell when hope is found. They can truly say that the Lord has brought them out of a bad situation to a marvelous light.

No.
Rebels and hardcore people?
Ha, you make them sound cool.
Being the son, well I guess I should say ex-son, of meth addict Christians I will tell you they are the worst people I have ever met. There is nothing hardcore about beating your family, spreading anger, violence, and abuse everywhere you go.
You know what's real? Even after knowing nothing growing up but drugs I've never touched the stuff, or will. That is real.

Atheists do not convert to Christianity. One you realize that God doesn't actually exist, there can be no going back. It's like figuring out how a magic trick was done. You can't get fooled again.
Christians like to take people who are simply non-religious, for one reason or another, convert them to Christianity, and then proclaim them as former "Atheists" who have found God. Kirk Cameron is a perfect example of this. He claims he used to be an atheist. All he means is that when he was growing up, God was not a priority in his life, and his family didn't take him to church on Sundays. That, is NOT the definition of an true atheist.
But to borrow from your line of thinking, some of the coolest and greatest Atheists I have ever met have been ex-Christians.

They have to do an awful lot of digging.
Usually there is a lot of a reasons they ended up that way to begin with.
Cleaning out a truckload of manure with a teaspoon teaches you a lot about the "stuff of life" that really counts.
And usually, those are eternal prinicples such as honesty, humility, service, not judging others, compassion, etc.....and my favorite...."not taking things too seriously"

I do beleive they tend to be real. I think they have a deeper and greater appreciation for Christ and his sacrafice becasue most druggies and the sort usually have some deeper emotional problems. Christ steps in and gives them peace that they never experienced before. They are more real because they been there and done that...they aren't as judgemental.

I can agree that these people can bring a very interesting dimension to preaching about the LORD. However, we must keep our sight on the gospel truth as our focus and NOT what our preacher used to be!
GOD bless

I love this question! Yep, one of our elders is a earring wearing tatooted motorcycle riding fun guy. His wife is teased about being the best dressed hippie......imagine "hippie chic" if you will. Both have come above some most difficult odds and damaging lifestyles. They are both wonderful examples of brothers and sisters in Christ.

It's also because they have been to the bottom and can see what the Lord has brought them out of. ....sometimes those of us who have never had the drugs or other things forget where we came from and what He has forgiven us and brought us out of.
I don't think they are more real but they have seen and experienced things some of us never will.
