If you are not happy, you cannot make others happy. The more you have, the more you have to give. So I don't see anything wrong with praying for what you want so long as you are sharing and generous when you get it.

Ask yourself why you don't want to wish or pray for material things? Get your focus off of other people for a minute. And think is there something you need? Is there something you wish you had? What's wrong with asking for it. The people who don't have with genuine needs haven't learned to ask for it because they feel they don't deserve it.
In other words. teach yourself how to pray for this without feeling guilty and then teach those with needs how to pray for themselves. Isn't that a great gift? It works.

But if you don't ask you won't get it. We have to start looking at God the Father as our Father. Often times as a little girl I knew I shouldn't ask for something because I didn't deserve it but I would ask anyone. He could only say yes or no. Thats how I approach God. Love him like my daddy and Jesus tells us that we have not because we ask not. You keep thinking its selfish to pray for what you want...and I'll keep praying for what I want so that I can be a blessing to others.

That's between you and God first and foremost. Personally, I think its ok to feel that way, but let me point this out. Material things are not bad in and of themselves. Its the...love...of those material things...and letting them control you that can lead to bad actions. Therefore, I can't say praying for material things is completely bad...as long as your motives are right. Also, have you considered praying to God for things that you want...so that you can give them to others to see if God can trust your stewardship? Just an idea. Hope that helps! :)

Anyway, I think it is not just about prayers. Perhaps you can do other things. Like listen to recitation of the Quran by some of the really nice reciters. It always calms me down and leaves my heart at ease whenever I am in need for it. Try Maryam by Lafi Al Oni. A friend recommended it to me and the reciter's voice is an absolute serenity.

"Casting all your care upon him for he cares for you" 1 Pe. 5:7... Your viewpoint sounds sensible to me, but there are times when we really need material things and should pray for them. When we obey the Bible, "seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you".. the Lord helps us with our other needs. Our most important things we have in our life are things we cannot see and are eternal and they come from God. God is blessing you.

I don't think there is any problem with asking for material things, hey if they are in the will of God for you, you will get them. The problem is going over board. The Bible says ask and it will be given unto you. There is no problem as long as your material needs do not superceed the needs of other, as long as God doesn't become Santa Claus. But we should definitely be asking God for some material things...money (material) is needed to operate in ministry...a car (material) can be used to bring people to church.

It's okay to pray for yourself if it lines up with gods word. It would probably depend what you intend to do with the material things.

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts (desires). James 4:3

God wants us to pray about ALL things. The Bible says if we seek God and His righteousness He will give us the desires of our heart.

God knows what you need and what you want, He wants you to pray (talk to Him) because He loves you. It is okay to ask for what you want or need, just talk to Him about everything!
