it has alot to do with patience.
i beleive that some of the best pics i've taken were random shots that nobody was posing for
be patient, have your camera handy and you'll know the great ones about 2 secs. before you snap the camera!

There is a difference between random, and unposed or candid. Unfortunately, random is what a lot of picture snappers do, random without any thought or planning whatsoever, just snapping the shutter without seeing.

The same considerations of lighting and composition apply to candids as well as set up shots. Always be aware of lighting, good light makes a better image. Get in the habit of seeing what's behind your subject, sometimes taking a step or two one way or another makes a big difference. The pictures of your baby playing with the new puppy will look better without the laundry basket and clutter in the background. Same thing outside, watch for trees growing out of heads, stuff like that.

Candid photography can be a wonderful story telling event. With a bit of care, the images will be treasured as depicting the "real" person for years to come.

Random means that you didn't plan for it for example I would go out specifically looking for flower shots and then I see an amazing bird shot that I just can't pass up.

However, people tend to confuse random with candid shots and its not. Random images will only be good if the same amount of effort is placed into the execution as if it was planned shot.
