Scourge, once again you have it wrong. Yiddish is a combination of Hebrew and German, not the other way around. Modern Hebrew is very much a semitic language; word roots, conjugation etc. all conform to standard Semitic form. There are some differences between modern and biblical Hebrew, however most are a result of the Bible's poeticism. There is some truth to what you say however. Languages evolve over time, and Hebrew did change over the centuries of European exposure while Arabic remained isolated. As such, modern Hebrew and modern Arabic have diverged somewhat over time and are more dissimilar than Biblical Hebrew and ancient Arabic would have been. I am no expert in either language and am especially ignorant in Arabic, so this is all I can tell you. EDIT: You are correct. When I said Arabic remained isolated, I was refering specifically to the Arabic dialect of Arabia. It is true that the early Arab expansion following the unification under Islam brought Arabic into close proximity with other languages. There are many dialects because of this - parts of the world where Arabic merged with the local language. However, if I am not mistaken, those dialects had little influence on Arabian Arabic, and so Arabian Arabic specifically remained mostly isolated. I could be wrong, I'm no expert.
