In all seriousness people, no preaching or anything, no getting really angry at me, i am stating facts here, some logic. In Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and most god-related religions, God is a supreme being who created the universe and can do anything, he is all powerful and all knowing, he will reward the good and punish the evil. If you had that power, what would you do? Some people would abuse the power, some might get overwhelmed. If i could do anything at all, perform miracles and command masses, i would help others, not threaten them with heaven or hell or whatever. In my opinion, anyone or anything that has the power to change the world for the better in such drastic ways, but doesn't, no matter what the reason, does not deserve our praise. If god has the power to end all poverty, to create world peace, to stop global warming or shut up Pres. Bush, why wouldn't they do it? Please give some opinions, nothing that implies a lack of faith or that i am not correctly informed.

Some time, take a look at what God's commandments say-- they're directions on how to be good citizens. Don't lie, don't steal, be kind, keep your promises.... Sounds like God wants us to be good people.

I personally think that the point of Christianity (I use this religious example because its the one I am most familiar with) isn't to get to heaven, but to refine my own character, to help me become a better person-- kinder, more patient and tolerant, wiser, stronger, etc.

It's about my personal development. God (yes, I believe there is one) wants me to be like Him- and that's what His commandments will do, as I make them part of my life. If I choose to make the commandments part of my life, I'll feel comfortable in His presence. On the other hand, if I choose to make up my own rules, I may not feel quite so comfortable. I think that's the heaven/hell, and I suspect that we will choose where we will be based on how well we made God and His commands part of who each one of us is.

Soooo what's "totally and completely dumb" about that? An all-powerful being wants us to get along... so He actually gives a rat's a--. I think that's pretty cool.

To be honest I always had a feeling God was still "immature" in his devolopement. One might say "child-like". And humanity is more like an experiment to him to see how creatures with free will will act and react with his governing divine law. Even the bible has suggestive tones in it to the sort. God has a plan but can't directly interfere and man has the ability to do as they chose despite the fact that a power that has created all and can destroy all is watching over them and knows everything that happens. God, who can do ANYTHING makes a law saying that the rules of earth will be honored in heaven. God created an angel that could disobey him and instead of destroying him he gave him his own plane of existence and sends souls there who end up becoming part of satan's army. An army who plans on then overthrowing God and taking over heaven. And God takes the threat seriously and all souls that go to heaven become part of God's army that will have to literally fight back to maintain superiority.
It honestly sounds like a science experiment.
How strange would it be to die and then find out that our entire universe was created for another beings highschool science experiment?!

Well I'm Jewish and I don't believe in hell. I don't think G-d cares if you have a religion or not. And I don't think G-d would condem someone to eternal damnation for having or not having a particural belief system. G-d would never be that cruel. Another thing is that worship really isn't for G-d's benefit, but for the people doing it. You learn about yourself and by doing it. I also don't think G-d gets involved in the world. I think he lets humans do what they want to. If I had ultimate power I would try to fix everything, but I'm not a goddess. And in the end I think G-d has his reasons for not getting involved. Hope that helped some.

that's a large question, and one that has confounded people of all religions. in user-friendly terms some people in each and each era can particularly rejoice with the formless non-human nature of God, so persistently people make the main of form to symbolize the formless or to visualise get right of entry to to the formless. Visualizing the genuine formless God as a human-like "father" discern is an occasion of this substitution. Books could additionally get carry of the character of an idol whilst reverence for them will become worshiping the e book. there is a superb line between making use of gadgets as a ability of get right of entry to to the formless God and commencing to worship the gadgets themselves. Hindus address this undertaking via destroying the photos after a short volume of time, as properly as fashioning the photos in techniques that are so non-sensible that there is not any tendency to mistake the image for the actual situation.

In my opinion, the intricate beauty in the complexities of nature, are too great to be simple evolution. So, I do believe in a Creator, maybe not the creator of the cosmos but of life on earth.
And I agree with you that a being so great would never demand worship from His/Her/It's creations.
I do thank the Creator for the opportunity of life, but ask for nothing.

I wish someone would write a book that included many of the main stream religions, and extract nothing but the philosophies and morals from them.

I think this is a great question/thesis! I have felt that way often myself.
But my point of view is simply this. I believe we get sent down here to learn lessons, and that we achieve our successes based on how we complete our lessons. For instance, I had a horrible problem with assertiveness, Now at 46 I tell everyone what I want and when I want it, while being patient yet unrelenting.
I have learned what to tolerate and what not to tolerate. And in the end run, I'm pretty happy with that.
I've learned that poverty and prosperity are simply words, people are still assholes in poverty and prosperity.
I've learned that I can want every great gift for my kids, but they have to learn that themselves. It's not up to a God, it's up to me.
I've learned to be tolerant of religion. If you need that crutch. so be it for you. If you don't, and have found your own god that's great for you.
I quit trying to understand religion, because religion is within oneself.
I quit trying to understand god because only exists within ones religion and I can't tolerate religion.
So I just stopped. I don't have the answers and I don't need to. I'm just learning what I need to learn and when I go I go.

God has the power to make those changes and will do so in His time. He is worthy of praise because He has prepared the way for believers to have eternal life in heaven (which is not a THREAT, btw).
If I had that power, I'd mess it up somehow, because I am a frail and sinful being. God is not and in His perfection, is able to handle ultimate authority and power without abusing it for selfish reasons.

So ask your loved ones if every gift they gave you was a waste of time.

Ask your teachers and coaches if every encouragement was a waste of time.

Every time anyone has even spoken to you, was that a waste of time also?

The Bible says that if you take a fool, like yourself, and grind him between a Mortar and Pedestal that you cannot grind the foolishness out of him.

You consider yourself pretty smart. But then again all fools are smug.

an understanding of who God is begins with the questions you have posed here.
If you are looking for clarity, you will only find it in seeking God
If you are looking for agreement, then your argument makes no sense to someone who believes in the one true God.
If you are looking for an opinion, your point is moot - since you obviously appear to have made up your mind.
True open mindedness would infer both an intellectual and personal / spiritual approach to your statements. I know you don't WANT to understand it, but there it is - begging to be understood.
