My chihuahua has worms and they are long and white. What kind of worms are they and how did she get them. We just recently brought in a new kitten but she has fleas. What could the problem be? We're trying to find a Vet to take her to.

Just go to wal-mart or a pet store and pick up worm medication to take care of the worms. Sounds like tape worms to me, or round worms. Lots of dogs have them. Fleas are very hard to get rid of if left untreated for too long. They just don't die! Here's what you can do to eliminate them from your home:
Buy flea powder that you sprinkle on your carpet and vacuum up. Fleas can live there!
Buy flea and tick shampoo and use it on your kitten. The liquid stuff might be too strong for her. If you chihuahua also has fleas you can use it on her.
Wash all of the bedding, rugs, or anything else that your dog has laid on. They like to hide there and wait for the anti flea stuff to wear off your animals, then they jump back on!

If you continue to have problems with the worms and/or fleas, you should make a phone call to your vet and see what else you can do. Good luck, I hope the problems clear up! :) I know how horrible fleas are! xD

Long white worms are roundworms..they are very common in dogs especially puppies.

Your puppy didn't get them from your kitten..the kitten though can get tapeworms from the fleas (tapeworms aren't transferable to your dog from the kitten, however the fleas can go to your dog and they can cause tapeworms).
Do NOT use ANY OTC dewormers ever!! They are a big waste of money, ineffective and can be very unsafe. Also they don't always work for the type(s) of worms your pets may have. You need to get an appropriate dewormer from your vet and in the proepr dosage.

There are several OTC wormers available to take care of that problem. You can get them at Petco / Petsmart, etc. Your biggest issue is not just that it has worms but where they came from. If you have one pet with them and they leave a pile in the yard, then the next pet comes along and the worm hitches a ride on the fur, foot whatever ... now you have a cycle started.
It would be best to have them both tested and then do some dooty work. You are going to have to make sure that you clean up all fecal matter from the yard / litter box right away so that you break the cycle.
While you are at it treating the fles - do not forget to get teh heartworm preventative. It is way cheaper to prevent it than to treat it. Trust me, I just found out the hard way.

The problem is, sounds like your dog has round worms from your desciption. The kitten having fleas would produce tape worms. Both need a simple medication that rid them of worms and fleas.

A vet exam, fresh stoole sample. 3 days worth of capstar for both pets to kill fleas (that are on them and jump on them}within 30 minutes. More than likely a medication called Drontal will be used to irraticate hooks, whips, rounds and tape worms. Then Advantage for monthly flea preventative.
Best wishes

TRYING to find a vet? I am assuming that you live in a small town if you are "trying". I also assume that you have seen these worms show up in her poo, if a dog has worms, that is where it will be shown. That's the easiest way to tell. I apologize but I don't know what kind of worms they may be....maybe this will help. http://www.hartz.com/Dogs/ArticlePreview.asp?Animal=1&Article=93&Topic=3

Buy de-wormer from the feed store. The worms are normal. They are called round worms. They usually get them from the momma. All part of being a puppy and a puppy owner. You should probably de-worm the cat as well. Fleas mean tape worms.

Dogs can get worms through any numbr of ways. It's not a huge deal though. Find a vet, he'll either give your dog a shot, or some pills that will get rid of them.

Long worms that look like spaghetti are roundworms. Little worms that look like rice kernels are tapeworms. Please have your pup and kit looked at by vet before you decide to give them any medication. Have a fecal sample run to make sure there are no other parasites involved, and get rid of those fleas asap!
