Oh, yes. Not consciously though, and I take this metaphorically since I don't actually believe in the devil. I believe it to be a physical symbol of karma...that's my short and sweet version and also for another question.

To the point! :)
I have gone to dark places within this and other manifestations as most souls do. Looking back on many of these times, events and phases I see that I chose to go there on a spiritual level so I could grow and move forward with, hopefully, a little more wisdom or knowledge than I had before. I can use the experience to become closer to God and Home if I remember to move past the condition of human drama and see the higher good being served.

XOXO

By experiencing " sour " events in life or stepping for a bit into temptation . . . Experiences as those can bring awareness to a person of how hurtful and / or empty those " sour " experiences are. Thus when they move away from those ' sour experiences ' they see the Light of " God " the One more clearly...and thus become closer to " God " the One.

Who hasn't experienced that " dance " that you mention ? When standing before the Light of " God " the One . . .That's when the person has choices and free will steps in. Does a person draw closer to " God " the One or instead to " dance in the shadows " ? Free will.

Yes, that has been the result. Although I never had the foresight to know that would be the outcome. I would never choose an evil or perhaps selfish deed thinking that would make me closer to God. But in an effort to avoid the pain associated with my choices, I learned lessons which have brought me closer to God,

I have hate danced with the devil, it has made me closer to God. I still have the demon in me, If anyone goes to bind the evil spirit and cast out in Jesus name, I get wipped to the ground and It does this hate getaway kind a thing. I asked God to not allow this demon to get casted out of me, unless they were truely in Jesus name. Some time's I wish I never asked that, Been 6 yrs. My pastor is seeking for answers he gets no response from God. He is like God talks to me, but he is silent for you.

That doesn't work.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Matthew 5:39
But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Metaphorically, yes. What's that old saw - something about walking a mile in anothers moccasins. For me it was akin to that. I prefer to look my fears in the face, usually they start as unknowns, move to curiousity, gain some personal insight, then take (or leave) the lessons. I think that many people are chained by their fears because they are never willing to ask 'What is that really?' All for now.
