It was a satire on current social, religious, and psychological society of the 1980's and 1990's (but its still applicable now). Most people didn't catch the satire and simply thought it a nice little film. But you got it, I hope a few others did as well.

This was one of the most captivating movies I've ever seen. I saw it in the theater when it came out and then got the VHS tape of it, but lost it in a fire last year. I watch the thrift store racks for a replacement tape to this day. I still wonder if rhinoceros really do instinctively stomp out fires. Anyone know where I can get another copy? The little people are so beautiful, and the film seems so "real," perhaps contrivedly so.
I believe that nothing is unexplainable, simply because the "explanation" for any phenomenon that is most authoritatively accepted today is subject to replacement by a "better" explanation" tomorrow!

That was a very funny movie...
I really felt for the bushman he just couldn't seem to get rid of the bottle...
I also really enjoyed the series of misunderstanding between the teacher and the tall white man.. I always laugh hysterically when he trys to explain the rhino and the fire...

yes it was a hoot and yes it is little different from how some people believe or define unexplained things within their religion
remember religion is mans interpertation of the existance of man.

I grew up watching that movie; perhaps that explains my worldview better than anything else. I can still quote long stretches of the movie from memory.
Interesting, too, that the tribe's conclusion is to get rid of the gift of the gods in the name of familial harmony.

A very good movie, and almost as sobering as Monty Python's "The Life of Bryan"
