first of all hospitals do go broke. they may charge out -rageous fees but that does not mean they are getting paid. i work in an icu and see people stay for weeks and run up
huge bills and have no insurance and no way to pay. we took care of an illegal involved in a dui for 4 mo. he couldn't pay and there was no one to give permission to end his suffering and his bill was over one million dollars. that all comes back to the middle class to pay and it is breaking our backs. so when the hospitals close there will only be a few private hospitals and they will probably work on a pre-pay basis. so good luck to us and hope we don't get sick. if the hospitals are not private they will be govt run and you can look at the va and see what you get when the govt runs healthcare.

I work at a hospital that offers services free or at low cost to those in need. The government reimburses us for those who are unable to pay. The major flaw in the system is that we cannot turn anyone away for lack of ability to pay, and majority of the patients that we receive are illegal. They get free services and then the money that they make they send back to their country to support the transport of others to this country. As a result of years of abuse, my employer is laying off 7800 people throughout the system, while these illegals continue to fill a bed within our hospitals. What is unfair to all legal working occupants of this country is that we work and have to pay 20 for doctor visits 50-100 for ER visits, 10-50 dollars for medication while they get everything free. They are a major strain on this economy and will not be satisfied until this country resembles a third world country like the one that they came from. I say if they come to the hospital undocumented, treat and release should be the policy, with direct release to a detainee center, while they await shipment to their county of origin.

I'll start my own hospital, hire docs and nurses cheap because they'll be desperate for work, and charge enormous amounts to patients because they'll have nowhere else to go.
