because some of my software doesnt work with it.

Disadvantages:
It's new.... and as with all previous windows versions is loaded with bugs, security issues, makes your hardware obsolete, won't run most software that isn't programmed to run specifically on that version, etc.

Advantages:
ummm.....
well...
It's bright shiny and new.... ooooohhhh aaahhhh.
It's an excuse to get rid of some of that useless green stuff that takes up pocket space.
It keeps Bill and other MS execs rich.
It's closer to what Linux or Mac was a few years ago.
Can't think of anything else.

It is only popular in that Microsoft has strong armed many of the PC companies and it's extremely difficult to get XP any longer.

It's not that people want it, but they have no choice. As people buy new computers, they are being forcibly converted. Eventually applications will be compatible, but the early adopters will pay in more ways than one.
