No darling, I'm atheist because I had a good life even when I stopped saying meaningless prayers at night. My life has actually been better since I stopped believing. I feel free and more mentally strong. It's hard to fool an atheist while believers are quite easy to. If you will beliieve in something you have no proof of, you'll believe anything. I act on my own accord, not at the whim of some "God".

It could be, the human mund can play all sorts of tricks on people. As you can see, a lot of Atheists express that they became sane when they decided that there was no God, which is something that they are being completely illogical about and unscientific to boot!
I think that the biggest reason they don't not believe in God ( as they say, but sometimes I wonder), is because they do not have the Spirit of God to guide them to the Father. There is no 'drawing' that many have, so there is nothing to base an alternative belief in God on. Jesus said that there wouldn't be anyone who came to God unless the Father drew them to him, and I think that is what is going on with them.
I also believe that those Atheists who cannot leave it alone, but make it a habit of coming after Christians are actually being guided by Satan, and they unwittingly march according to Satan's orders. As the Bible says: "Like sheep to the slaughter."

I have great parents. My family is the most important thing in my life to me, and we are all very close, even extended family. I have never been abused, or mistreated. My life is good, and happy. I have a great husband, a wonderful daughter, and lots of pets around the house. I am an atheist simply because I cannot tow the party line, and I don't easily believe things that cannot be proven to me. I am a rational person, and I believe in science and evolution. It is simply a difference of opinion, not a charachter flaw. My life is no different than yours is, with the exception of religion. People are just that, people. Regardless of color, creed, or religion, everyone is the same on a very basic level.

No. You probably, like me, intuitively "know" that God exists. Atheists intuitively know there is no God. Since there is no way of proving (or disproving) the existence of a God or Gods, out intuition is all we have, really. Certainly many people find validation for their intuition in ancient texts, but atheists see those books as merely ancient texts like the Iliad, the Aeneid, and the Epic of Gilgamesh. It has nothing to do with abuse or a "bad life." They just think differently from the way you think.

No. This is asked fairly regularly.
I have no doubt that there are some who fit your description, but from my experience, most atheists ( myself included ) just....
...are you ready for this? It's quite simple really....
...don't think there ever was, is, or will be a god, for no reason other than the idea of god seems ludicrous, far-fetched, wishful-thinking, and manufactured by humankind's fear of death.
People like wanzana cherry pick through answers to come to their own conclusions, in spite of what the overwhelming majority of atheists here claim... whereas people like creatrix get it. :) Believe what you will.

I am an athiest because when in college i did a paper on religions. I studied over 30 religions (both failed and existing) They all had the same things in common. Which was #1 a moral guide book to life (and/or) #2 an answer book for questions we dont know/understand. This led me to believe it was all a bunch of hocus pocus. I don't disrespect ANY "good" religion because for most people, they NEED it in order to live their life. I simply got to the point where i didnt need it anymore. :D

Isn't it really amazing, that Korzybski, in General Semantics, and also in the theories of Neurolinguistics , shows exactly how easy it is, in the English language, to make a blanket and prejudicial statement? It's built right into the language itself, prejudice.
Try using Sumbutnotall instead of the verb "To Be"
Remember Dr Leary!

Apparently, you wish that to be so...but like so many Christian theories...it's a fallacy.
I never was abused...I used to be a Christian and belonged to several churches and found no truths there...and I have a great life. The best part of which is having a brain in my head filled with common sense.

? I thought it had more to do with being a sensible human being.
And actually, lots of believers have had a bad life. Look at the Crusades! And you want to talk about abuse? What do you call evolution? That had to hurt.

I have many atheist friends, and I can't think of a one that's abused. Take everything with a grain of salt, hun. Man fears what they don't understand, be it religion or lack thereof.
