Many a times I've been on the internet and found people writing either that they're right about to overdose, have just overdosed, or are planning on committing suicide sometime soon. Usually not that they're considering it, but that its going to happen and thats just how it is. What do you say to a suicidal person over the internet?

Well first of all, they probably wouldn't care about anything you said if it was over the internet bc for all they know you could be a total stranger. But if your really close to the person and know ALOT about their personalities , I would suggest using reverse psychology. Otherwise just try and convince them that they have to much to live for (family, friends, etc.) And ask them "Is this what you really want" "It wont solve anything, just create more problems for your family (and/or friends)" Then being up that persons good memories (if you know them) and ask them to remember all the good times he/she had. Then end by saying "Please dont put your family/friends/us through this. Your family/friends love and care about you, and they/we will help you get through anything thats bothering you"

First of all, let them know they need to seek out professional help immediately (suicide hotline, counselor, etc.) and that people care.

Second, if you can keep talking to them saying positive things and helping them understand that their brain chemistry has changed and that is why they feel the way they do, may help. If you can let them understand that sometimes just by eating healthy, getting some exercise and talking to someone in person (a professional) they will feel better.

Third, that they aren't alone, others have endured this feeling and so can they with help. Committing suicide solves nothing and leaves behind loved ones who carry their actions, which is very unfair and wrong. Suicide is self murder, taking a life.

Personally I think whenever I read those it;s bull. Anyone seriously suicidal is not going to get on yahoo to find out how or whats the least painful. I don't have sympathy for anyone who does this an believe me I am a very kind person

Tell them that you love them and that they are special. Tell them that whatever they are going through right now is just that. They are going through it not staying in it. Ask questions about the things they like and fun times the have had. Get their number and call them. Pray for them. If you are on IM write out a prayer to God in their im and send it to them.

Try to tell them to look at the bright side, or just try not to make them sad-er,
I think if they are online they must be looking for someone to talk to or passing their goodbye to friends

tell them if they do it you will never speak to them again - maybe this will make them think about it - and if they succeeded you wouldnt be able to talk to them anyway.
