SUCH an excellent question. I truly believe that satan knows the real impact that the Bible has on people. Like u said.. its been attacked.. attempts to be destroyed .. banned and burned even ...satan has tried to polute it with different teachings...and today..in free countries where it is readily available.. satan is determined to keep christians away from actually reading it..
KNOW WHY?
The BIBLE is
-The norishing food for believers
-It innoculates believers from all the lies of the enemy
-It is the foundation upon which our faith is built upon
-The Bible is God breathed and is Spirit and Life to believers
-It Is the Gospel of God and the Power of God unto salvation
-It contains the purpose of God
-It unveils the truth that will destroy satan
- Reading the Bible causes believers to grow and mature in the Divine Life that they recieved upon their salvation.
-The word sanctifies us in the truth and we are not prone to the lies of satan
-The Spirit plus the word is RHEMA... the instant word that speaks directly into our being.
-Reading the Bible transforms our mind by renewing it of all the oldness and rubbish that satan would love to be stored in our minds. Our transformation means that we are being conformed gradually into teh Image of Christ and satan hates and is afraid of this and will do whatever it take to prevent us from knowing what is in the word and being infused with the words of Life in the bible...
SO YES.. His attempts to Banish the word is so rampant.
As believers we need to pay the price to get into the word daily...
We need to be thankful for its availability to us..we are no longer in teh dark ages.. but in a time where much light and revelation in the word has been recovered and applied.
May the Lord keep preserving His precious Word and may we as believers in Christ HIDE It in our hearts that we might now sin against Our God.
Grace of the Lord Jesus be with you

the Bible is many things.......it is a history book of the Jews.....it is a guide to leading a good moral life......it is a health book that explains what to eat to maintain health.....It is full of suggestions and advice on leading a good spiritual life.....it is a book of philosophy, poems and songs. It talks about money management and the good management of the soul. It is the all time best seller that informs about this time and the time to come.....a book of hope for all who open its pages. Throughout history, there have been many book burnings and the Bible was just one of them. Books are burnt to stop the flow of knowlege because knowlege is power and can set the mind and soul free from those who wish to control.

Wow, think about the Vedas, or the Sutras... even older. So maybe there more special.
EDIT:
Thomas, I respectfully disagree. If you think about it, it is an answer, but probably not the kink you (nor the questioner want).
My response really points out the flaw in the thinking of the questioner. She believes that because the book is old, and has been criticized, yet people still believe in it, it must be divine, or special. Yet their are texts, that are much older and have been criticized that many people still believe in. Using that logic, the Hindu Vedas are more special.
So if you read between the lines of my response, the Bible is no more special than any other religious book.

it particularly is all a count of attitude. people see issues in accordance with their own view of certainty. in case you examine the Bible and spot no longer something particular, it particularly is effective for you. in case you examine Buddhist texts and jap religions and that's sensible to you, large. in simple terms keep in mind that because of the fact those issues make sense to you, would not inevitably propose that they make sense to others.

try doing all that to Harry Potter, it won't go away either. So I guess nothing is special about the Bible! Other than it's too long and boring and full of hallucinogen induced fairy tales! Hey, there's another thing Harry Potter and the Bible have in common...

It is a book written and supposedly inspired by God. I don't personally think to highly of it but there are many who have a great benefit from its words. I have the entire book and some parts do stick out and stick with you. My problem with this book is the vagueness and unclearity of it. People twist the passages to their own suiting to make their argument work. I don't want to hear about God's greatness, dammit I want to feel it!

A number of people have been persuaded that it contains some sort of guide to life. Weird, isn't it?

"Special"? ... It's the *ONLY* BOOK I know that advocates the KILLING of 2/3s of ALL HUMANITY! ... (Me? ... Because I accept huge amounts of scientific evidence over mythical "Gods.")
BIBLICAL DEATH PENALTY: (part 33) KILL UNBELIEVERS - Acts 3:23 … "And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear the prophet, shall be destroyed."
BIBLICAL DEATH PENALTY: (part 34) KILL UNBELIEVERS - 2 Chronicles 15:12-13 (NIV) … They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul. All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.

If they don't accept it as valid why try to distroy it.
Why get so angry about people reading and accepting it.
