My sister has a large bubble on her leg, she claims she was bitten by a mosquito. The bubble has just about the same circumference as a nickel, and sticks out a full centimeter. We are popping it with a needle now, can anyone diagnose this?

After it is popped and some things have oozed out, what precautions should we take after?

If it really was a mosquito that bit her, then she must be very allergic to mosquito bites. That's OK. You say you're popping it? Well, after it has popped and the liquid oozes out, wash the region well with soap and water and put some antiseptic lotion or ointment on it. This will prevent the raw skin from getting infected easily.

If some problem arises, take her to the nearest place where you can get medical help.

What you've defined sounds like a cat bite with perfect puncture wounds. Given it also is going by the fingernail, i'd say that you ought to truthfully take her in for medical interest NOW. Any cat bite that motives puncture wounds needs medical institution interest and extremely reliable antibiotics, because the an infection can develop into very intense. you're saying that's already very pink and swollen, so there is already an infection there. The fingernail EXISTS to guard the tender and tender nerve endings in our palms. the actual shown actuality that the bite went by a fingernail makes this even more beneficial urgent - i'm no longer attempting to make you panic, yet when an infection contraptions in lower than the nail, this would develop into very intense. do not waste more beneficial time on Yahoo solutions with this - the quicker you get there, the quicker you receives this considered. The worst case state of affairs is that the canine had rabies, which may be transmitted by the cat, on your mom. it truly is amazingly not likely, although the chance can not be omitted. it would take some hours of waiting to get it considered now, yet that would want to maintain a lot more beneficial hours, a lot more beneficial discomfort, and price, in case you wait. i'm no longer attempting to make you panic, there is not any reason for panic, yet you ought to truthfully be searching for medical interest now. i'm hoping each and everything seems nicely, on your mom, your cat, and also you!

Hi Ho,
Recent MD grad here,
I know, you don't need to go to a doc for every little thing. Having said that, allergic reactions can be VERY fast. Best bet at this point is this, turn around from your monitor and call your doctor (who will have someone on call) or your local ER. They will ask you some questions about the bite and tell you whether your sister needs to come in right now, whether she needs an ambulance, whether she can wait to come in to the office tomorrow, or whether whatever it is can be dealt with at home. Without knowing the details, it's pretty hard to be sure what to do.

Good luck to you and your sister,
Julie

If a mosquito bite has caused that type of reaction, your best bet would be to go to the emergency room and get it checked out, just to be on the safe side. I wouldn't even pop it until you have talked to a doctor.

most likely this is an abcess or small pocket of infection. you did not mention how long ago she first noticed this "bubble" or irritation. Wash the area well, if any additional swelling or signs of infection occur seek medical attention. Watch the area for increasing redness, warmth, drainage or streaking up the leg. It may heal on its own, or she may need the area drained and/or antibiotics.
Good luck and have a medical doctor look at the wound as you feel is needed.

If she was bitten by a mosquito and it swelled like that, she's probably allergic to mosquito bites. If you've popped it, wash it out with soap and water and put some neosporin on it to prevent infection.

Don't pop it!! A blister is Nature's bandaid. By breaking it, you allow bacteria and other microorganisms to enter the area of tender, raw skin. If you've already popped it, keep it covered and very clean. Observe for further redness or thick, greenish or yellow discharge. If the redness worsens, if she has pain or fever, or any other unusual reaction, go to a doctor. If she's not allergic to any meds, you can put a small amount of polysporin on it.

Sounds like what they call a "boil" to me, not a mosquito bite. See a doctor to be sure. Boils are not serious but they have a large sized "core" that has to be removed.

That sounds like a spider bite that's laid eggs, use peroxide.
