I work as a cop in a major city. Our city has a response goal of "7" minutes for Fire / Rescue response arrival. They hit it all of the time. They are good people trying to do the right thing. Believe me, people say that my job is hard... they can keep that crap! I would much rather go in to a dark building looking for an armed robber than go into a burning building looking for some homeless bum that started the place on fire and is now trapped.

Yeah. Supposedly my heater was on fire. I was at work. My insane girlfriend said the heater was on fire and was calling the fire department unless I came home. I didn't go home, she called the fire department. They came, broke apart my wall, busted up my heater and found nothing. She said she threw water on it. Only problem is... it's an oil heater. You know, water and oil. Well that is impossible. So my moral is, call them only if you must.

I didn't, but the Brinks people did. I had accidentally set off the danged alarm... and it had been so long since I used it, that I'd forgotten the password... I begged them to please not send anyone, but dang it all, they sent out a firetruck. I had to tell them what happened and they were miffed with me and I was miffed with Brinks and late to work to boot.

I have since dropped the whole house alarm thing.

HOWEVER... the firemen got there verry quickly.
They have also responded very quickly to the scene of car wrecks, as well.

Fairly good, my area does not have a paid fire department, so you never know exactly how many fireman will respond, and if they are working they have to leave thier job, go to the firehouse and then come to your home.
